On two occasions, Steven Singer’s posts have been blocked by Facebook. Both posts were about privatization.
He has pondered why this happens.
He has two theories.

I am also banned from commenting on the ’74 posts. It happened after I repeatedly responded to their false statements. I still sometimes receive the ’74 posts, but the like and response capacity have been disabled. I can still read the propaganda, but now I opt to ignore them.
I am not a FaceBook person so I don’t understand how it works. Somehow it is a money maker and obviously there are some comments that are considered worthy of being blocked. Someone explain how Russia could make comments to influence the election and this wasn’t blocked but when Steve Singer voices his beliefs it is blocked.
Facebook also posts paid advertisements as well. Up until the big fallout from the election, I don’t think Facebook did much screening of these ads. During the election there were many small ads on the right side of Facebook’s page. Many of these accused Hillary of outrageous deeds. I did not open or read them because I knew they were absurd and fake. Some people clearly read them and have have been influenced by their content during the election.
Both theories make sense. One is content censorship, the other is pay for some marketing or you are blocked.
The big threat to everyone is the end of net neutrality which will mean slow as molasses for a lot of people or off the chart charges, all unbundled for marketing.
All of the hype and investments to promote (de)personalized learning from infancy through pre-school to workplace credentials could take a hit. I will not be sad about that, but the Internet has been such a great tool for research, publication, and really great commentary that I would hate to see all that made less accessible. As it is, the paywalls for news are increasing and the raiding of copyrighted material is rampant. I have never had a desire to Tweet or use Facebook.
Well written. And, very troubling.
I bought your book, Mr. Singer.
Books are good.
Keep writing.
Scariest line predicting our media future: “What exactly is fake news? Whatever Campbell Brown says it is.”
How many Facebook readers does Singer have?
