Forrest Claypool, CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, resigned following an ethics investigation critical of him. Rahm Emanuel applauded his performance, which was marked by cost-cutting. He will be succeeded by Janice Jackson, chief academic officer and a graduate of CPS.

Nothing like calling a “superintendent ” the CEO. It facilitates the whole corporate business model.

Since Claypool is not an educator, it seems right to call him a CEO

Does Claypool have a golden parachute?

Good question. Broad Academy grads make sure their contracts have huge buy out clauses. They pre-plan to take our money & run out of town. Change is hard, they say.

I ask because Boulder Valley School District hired a retired military man from the Air Force Academy to be Superintendent.
He didn’t last. But this yahoo did GET his GOLDEN PARACHUTE.

The public as not been made aware of any parachute, but you can bet there is something there for him. Until his pals find another hatchet job for him to go to. This is the fourth head of Chicago schools to be replaced while under the direction of Mayor Emmanuel. This time Chicago saw not only school closings (latest is now closing all the HS in one neighborhood without a replacement for those students) but cuts to the budget of all schools and fuzzy math in budgeting for the special education students.
No one is talking about the $10M paid to companies who knew nothing about education or special ed but wrote the newest manual on how to service and approve services for special ed students.

Exactly! Allowing anyone outside of the university system to prepare &/or evaluate teachers is an under the radar provision written into many state policy, regs & grants. It not only dumbs down the profession but it slowly kills off university education preparation programs. Students can’t afford to pay tuition to go into a profession that pays like Walmart clerks . Eventually the programs will shrink & politicians will use “declining enrollment” to under fund or end university teacher preparation.
For example, in TN the state board of ed made up a category of eligible education preparation organizations. It’s an ERO- education related organization. TN allows school systems (LEAs) to bypass university level teacher/educator preparation & choose their own Education Preparation Provider (EPP).
It’s an open door for TFA & any profiteering private corporation to erode professional standards by bypassing higher education.
TN Educator Preparation Policy 5.504
Eligibility
The following organizations are eligible to apply for approval to serve as a Tennessee-approved education preparation provider (EPP).
Tennessee-based Education-Related Organizations (ERO) working in collaboration with at least one local education agency (LEA) with which the ERO has established a primary partnership.3
Tennessee LEAs or a consortium of Tennessee LEAs operating in good standing.
Corporate reformers wrote not just laws but embedded policies that lead to teacher shortages and made it fast & easy to become a teacher by dumbing down teacher preparation. They’re slowly turning the US teaching profession into the equivalent of walmart clerks. NONE of these toxic policies have changed.
