The H-E-B Grocery stores in Texas are owned by Charles Butt, who uses his billions to support public schools, not charter schools or vouchers.
During Hurricane Harvey, the stores launched their own relief efforts to make sure that groceries were available where they were needed.

He’s a hero and a GOOD MAN.

“evadable where they were needed” …”available”, surely.

You cannot imagine how great this was until you are hit and in the thick of it. My heart was elevated even as I was alone in a house after 8 feet of water and no electricity, no phone service and no operating food mart of any description. I knew HEB had hauled that massive trailer into a destroyed place and I knew it would all be well eventually.
Roads flooded out. No food in stores. A lone mercado with roughly 100 people standing patiently outside, wrapped in garbage bags as rain poured down upon their heads. I had apples and peanut butter in the upstairs of my home so I did not join the line.
Meanwhile BIG YELLOW PUBLIC School Buses drove the disaster route picking up people and ferrying them to makeshift shelters which were, of course, PUBLIC School gymnasiums. HEB and PUBLIC Schools answered the call.

Kathy,
How wonderful to hear your story! What good citizens to be there when help was needed.
