Betsy DeVos released a letter denouncing the KKK and white supremacists. Only in this administration would Cabinet members feel compelled to make such a statement.
Some of her allies called on her to prove her sincerity by resigning but that’s not gonna happen. She will continue to serve a man who believes that the KKK and white supremacists are his base.
Anyone who serves in the Trump administration will emerge with their reputation in tatters. By remaining in his retinue, they demonstrate that their love of power exceeds their integrity.

Diane,
and John –
Blacks who were never slaves are fighting whites who were never Nazis over a Confederate statue erected by southern Democrats because now Democrats can’t stand their own history anymore……yet somehow it’s Trumps fault!
At Byrd’s funeral – nation’s first black president also recalled Byrd’s 10 years in the Ku Klux Klan, from 1942 to 1952. Without mentioning the KKK by name of course, Obama recalled how Byrd apologized personally to him during their initial meeting. Clinton did reference the KKK association. Remember Obama had the BLM group to the White House innumerable times….
Obama:
“We know there were things he said, things he did, that he came to regret,” Obama said. “I remember talking about that the first time I visited with him. He said, ‘There were things I regretted in my youth. You may know that.’ I said, ‘None of us are absent some regrets, Senator. That’s why we enjoy and seek the grace of God.’ … Robert Byrd possessed that quintessential American quality — the capacity to change, to learn, to listen, to be made more perfect.”
Many in this group can allow the KKK leader to apologize and they forgive him with his “apology” and yet they do not have the ability to afford the President the same – no matter what how or when he says anything , it never will be enough. But they love that KKK leader – well known also for the good he did in the senate for W.VA.
John, IMHO this blog is great when the discussion surrounds issues of education, so don’t unsubscribe – you will learn a lot about those who obstruct and prevent the growth of this country – The sewer or swamp has a collection of republicans and democrats who don’t like the outsider.
Don’t you just love all the adjectives and names they call you — Troll – wear it with pride – “insane, extremist, off the edge of the map right-wingers” = just continue to point out the other side of any issue that you deem necessary –
Some day maybe the Dems will call for unifying and coming together rather than constant bleating and bloviating in an effort to energize their base –
The critics – Repubs and Dems need to avoid the smugness of “we have it right and you don’t” attitude. This country would be better off wither in depth discussions and conversations rather riots.

Diane Ooops. I “sent” before I was finished with my note above. But there is an exception to your statement about power and integrity. That is, I think some at the highest level remain with Trump from a sense of using their power to protect the Country. That’s not the first time that’s happened in history.

Almost this entire administration ibecomes more embarrassing and shameful as they speak in language, and engage in action…that either demonstrates pure ineptitude that is blatant and overt, while pushing policies that harm the American people.
How difficult is it to stand up, at any time or place in this nation, and call out criminality in this nation, that perpetrated by a gun, or by a pen…and do what an administration can do?
For Trump and his staff…it borders on difficult to impossible. From the Attorney General, to the Vice President, to the Secretary of Education, to other secretaries…these individuals…they are guided by the temptation of either power, buying it through controlling others, and/or selling it to those who dream of it.
Words mean nothing to them…follow their actions.
A message to Ms Betsy…”the eyes never lie”.

Breitbart just published an article blasting Romney, Rubio, and McCain for not standing by our apologist in chief. The same article continues their ludicrous spin–that Charlottesville was some sort of confrontation between good, decent nationalist heritage folk and evil Antifa baddies. See what the mother of the young woman murdered by the fascists in Charlottesville thinks of THAT, below.
BTW, news just broke that the apologist in chief is firing Bannon, so I guess Breitbart can have him back.

Very important to repeat over and over again. I commented about this the first time I became aware of the fiction late last year. It is a term conjured up by American fascists to create a false equivalency. The truth is that we have no far left to speak of in this nation. There are no elements on the left who are engaging in violence or trying to undermine the governing process.

While Christ’s teachings reject hatred and exploitation of the vulnerable…
“. Many Christians like to tout the assumed solidarity Christianity inspires, by quoting Galatians 3:28: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Tell that to the Jews who are oppressed in countries dominated by Christians. Tell it to black people whose ancestors were enslaved by Christians, and, most of whom, in this assumed Christian nation, are still segregated and subjected to racial bias by police. Tell it the women who continue to struggle for equality in patriarchcally-conditioned Christian Churches and societies.
People of various races, nationalities and sexual orientations all may be “one” in Christ, but they are not equal. Biblical belief in Christ as the savior of the world has not demonstrated the power to overcome anti-Semitism, racism, patriarchy or homophobia and create real solidarity. Nor has the absolutism of Biblical belief in Christ demonstrated the power to overcome xenophobia and Islamophobia. Just the opposite: the salvation of “justification by faith”-believing Christians depends on the damnation of unbelievers, and is thus inherently about division, not solidarity. There is no heaven without hell.”

Controversy over Confederate Statues Inspires Betsy DeVos to Google Civil War
By Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The raging controversy over Confederate statues has impelled Betsy DeVos to Google the Civil War, the Education Secretary confirmed on Thursday.
“People have been going on and on about the Civil War, and I was like, Betsy, what the heck are they talking about, exactly?” DeVos told reporters. “After a certain point, I decided I just had to Google it.”
DeVos said that she was glad that she Googled the Civil War, calling it “an extremely fascinating chapter in American history that people need to find out about.”
“Like President Trump has been saying, the Civil War had sides to it,” she said. “Although I don’t think it had many sides. I only counted two.”
DeVos said that, prior to Googling the Civil War, she believed that parents should have a choice as to whether or not their children learned history in the nation’s schools, “but now I’m starting to rethink that.”
“I guess you might say I’ve gotten bitten by the history bug,” DeVos said, adding that she was about to Google Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and George Washington.

I believe that if Betsy DeVos resigned based on the principle that her Christian values are in conflict with the racist positions taken by her boss, Mr. Trump, she would likely reclaim her position as Secretary of Education in President Pence’s administration when Mr. Trump is ultimately removed from office…

I guess by now I shouldn’t be shocked to read that 64% of Republicans believe tRump’s assessment that both sides of the Charlottesville violence are equally responsible. I find it horrifying that so many would believe anything he says.

… if you read the mainstream media, which have relentlessly covered the liberal outrage at Trump’s remarks and the hasty attempts by business leaders, public intellectuals, and certain Republican politicians to distance themselves from him. But many Republican lawmakers have not spoken up, and 40% of Americans, according to one poll, agreed with Trump that both sides were equally responsible for the Charlottesville violence.

“We Just Feel Like We Don’t Belong Here Anymore”…Mother Jones
Over the weekend, Charlottesville, Virginia, exploded in violence over the impending removal of a Confederate monument. White nationalists, Ku Klux Klan members, and neo-Nazis clashed with counter-protesters, and the fighting reached a horrifying crescendo when a white nationalist drove his car into the crowd, injuring 19 people and killing one…
KKK chapters across the Southeast have struggled in recent decades to do much more than merely survive, but their numbers have grown over the past several years, and KKK leaders credit their resurgence to Trump and his white nationalist supporters. In Tennessee, my home state, a Memphis corrections officer resigned in November after expressing support for the KKK on his Facebook page and posting that he hoped the Obama family was hanged. A white supremacist conference has been held annually near Nashville for the past six years. And according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Tennessee is home to 38 active hate groups—more than almost any other state in the Southeast. (Florida has 63, and Virginia has 39)…

Between Trump and Kim, South Koreans wonder who is crazier
In a land where nuclear threats are like background noise, one world leader has managed to unsettle the public with his shrill, bellicose threats. Guess who…
Even after North Korea exchanged threats of a nuclear holocaust with the United States last week, South Koreans remain largely unruffled by what they see as routine conduct by their bellicose neighbour.
That’s not to say they aren’t worried though – just not so much about the North.
“Actually,” Kang Won-taek, professor of political science at Seoul National University, told This Week in Asia, “many South Koreans are worried about unilateral military action by the United States.”
Haeryung Kang, managing editor of Korea Exposé, expressed a similar sentiment last week, writing: “I’m just as afraid of Trump owning nuclear weapons as Kim Jong-un owning one.”…Read more: http://sc.mp/NSV92c
