Yesterday I heard from my friends at Pastors for Texas Children about parents who had been deported while their American-born children were left at the church, in East Texas. Christine Langhoff added that this is now policy: cruel, inhumane, and swift:
“Here’s an example of Trumpian evil:
“Head of Homeland Security John Kelly proposes to separate children from their mothers when they are detained at the border is the most horrific idea I can imagine. It constitutes child abuse.
“We have tremendous experience of dealing with unaccompanied minors,” he told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.” “We turn them over to (Health and Human Services) and they do a very, very good job of putting them in foster care or linking them up with parents or family members in the United States.”
He continued: “Yes I’m considering (that), in order to deter more movement along this terribly dangerous network. I am considering exactly that. They will be well cared for as we deal with their parents. … It’s more important to me, Wolf, to try to keep people off of this awful network.”
“Since the target for these round-ups and deportations seem to be Latinos, it amounts to ethnic cleansing. We need to refer to it that way.”
The Nazis hid what they were doing. The Trumpians are proud.
You are quite right about Nazis trying to hide what they were doing while, ironically, the Jewish informational grapevine kept them quite informed about atrocities throughout Europe (German Jews were well aware of atrocities in Poland, the death camps, and mass slaughters like Babi War and even as far away as Romania). Yet, while he knew about all these things while living in Dresden, Victor Klemperer noted in his diary “the worst measures against [Jews] are concealed from the Aryans. Even people who are close to the Jews are not aware of the petty bullying or the brutal murders.”
Trump is a SICK person.
Trump was sent to boarding school. Could it that he is so arrested developmentally that he is taking out his frustrations on our young and others, because of his NOT NORMAL experiences? When was HE “mothered” and comforted? I suspect … NEVER.
As to your last paragraph, Yvonne, I strongly suspect you are right.
It seems his upbringing was somewhat similar to that of the Koch brothers (& I strongly urge all of you to read “The Boys from (or is it of?) Witchita”), whereby the father was intent on producing “winners” &, in the Kochs’ case, actually had one of the servants take the boys outside, outfit them w/boxing gloves & have them box/pummel each other, while the mother was a sort of “shadow” figure–a society lady who wasn’t all-too-affectionate w/her sons.
Far from the normal parenting situation, where love, hugs, kisses & encouraging conversations around the dinner table would be commonplace.
So–just as was the case w/the employees of Ebenezer Scrooge–everyone (well, except the 1%, of course) in this country has to suffer.
Notice that the question was about parent with their children being separated.
John Key’s response was about unaccompanied minors.
Either way, the attitude is that punishment of children is the only way to deter “bad behavior” by their parents. That is sick, not just sad.
If I may riff off of your comments…
Given where Trump and some of his enablers/enforcers/propagandists stand on the political/philosophical spectrum:
Where’s the outrage from the “family values” crowd that claims, e.g., that “big gubmint” wants to be our daddy and mommy and take children away from their parents?
Apparently that’s only “symbolically” important to them because when it’s “literally” happening to those they despise and have contempt for—
They suddenly become engrossed in uncovering the MSM’s craven coverup of the Bowling Green Massacre.
A guess it’s all a question of priorities…
Has Trump actually put anyone that has normal emotional functioning in positions of authority? Can he actually staff the government with emotional cripples? When are the Republicans finally going to realize the horror they are unleashing on this country? Are they really so blind?
I hope there are some brave film students researching and taking footage so that next year’s live short documentary nomination will include a documentary WITNESSING THIS HORRIFIC ABUSE of child/parent separation. Although upon reflection, I have no doubt the public is and will continue to be “shielded” from the moment when parents realize they will be and are actually separated from their children. Perhaps the documentary can follow the parallel tragedy of parents on one side of the border and what happens to their children in the foster homes on the other side. Just thinking…
So we have all of the cruelty and immigrant bashing. But does anybody think that Trump is going to deny cheap labor to American employers. The problem of undocumented workers has always been an employer problem. If employers were not able to undercut fair wages and compliance with a high set of labor standards. There would never have been a surge in undocumented workers. I predict an immigration bill that does not lead to citizenship even for future guest workers children .While assuring that the workers stay in a state of indentured servitude to the employers who hold their visas .
Of course we will also never admit that American policy from NAFTA to coups is responsible for the economic refugees from Mexico as well as the political refugees from the rest of Latin America.
The wealthy can “buy” a green card through an EB-5 visa. All you need to get one is make a qualifying investment here. Lots of people think Mexicans should have to get in line like everyone else, but the legal line for Latinos is over twenty years long! They system is broken, but policymakers never discuss this.
All so that Republicans can keep us chasing after Anything But the real problems of the country, all the things we should be fixing.
How can we understand the state of being DESTITUTE in intellectually, physically and emotionally = hopelessness if we have not experienced it temporarily, left alone permanently?
The majority of Western people have never been experienced the state of being destitute even if they are as poor as being homeless in America because people believe in humanity and receive the support from other fellow beings.
Should we punish, resent, or ridicule people who are much below being INHUMANE = being savage in form/shape of human beings in lieu of hyenas/animals?
It is not only the sad and terrified emotion for commoners but it is much more insulted to be intelligent for all top notch law makers, movers, shakers, all top notch previous politicians and current educators in higher education level to accept this “DICTATORIAL” attitude from the current government.
Please watch all documentaries about the consequences that are yielded by all DESTITUTE PEOPLE from:
1) Lack of intelligence (born to be ignorant and cruel like serial rapist/killer),
2) Lack of homeland (commandos from Palestine, Israel…)
3) Lack of belief in humanity (greedy corporate, incompetent authority like Hitler…)
In short, unite we survive, divide we lose our hope.
Believe in humanity, we fight for the meaningful living and we decide our own destiny.
Believe in manipulation and fear for the corrupted power, we live in being destitute = hopelessness for life = meaningless living. Back2basic

Or is Trump so base that he’s lashing out at attorneys for his failure in courts and Sessions’ recusal?
Either way, impeach the fraudulent scumbag.

Exactly and all points well taken. There is another way to view this racist activity: it makes absolutely no economic sense. Consider the dollar costs of hiring agents, incarcerations, hearings, transportation, lawsuits, and the idiotic wall and soon we’re talking real money-in the tens of billions. And then there is the lost revenue because the undocumented pay taxes and spend money. Meanwhile some 25% of the nation’s child are reported as living in poverty.
“I’m like really smart!” “I have a good brain.”
Words of a slow-witted fool in a Twilight Zone episode. Perhaps followed by, “I’m gonna build big fancy buildings with my name in big gold letters on them! And then maybe I’ll become president! Yeah, me, president!! What do you think of that?!”
Not fool, buffoon.
Orange buffoon.
This compares to ripping Native American children from their homes and sending them to boarding schools to Americanize them. With this inhuman strategy came a whole mess
of abuse including cutting hair (a cultural taboo), punishment for speaking their native language, renaming them with American, not Tribal names, and even corporal punishment for breaking the rules. There were also instances of sexual assault.
Is this what Making America Great Again means? I’m ashamed of our country.
Yes. What happened to Native American children was horrendous, the results a dismal failure. I remember when the Dept. of Interior decided an individual’s fate. A classmate of mine, an exceptionally talented musician, was denied a full scholarship to college because someone decided an Native American could have no future in music. He dropped out of school and had an early death. Are we about to repeat history? Having met some of the central American refugees, the family bond is exceptionally strong, especially after all the hell they have gone through to just reach the American border, leaving behind all that is familiar. There are many so-called policies that upset me, but this is by far the most inhumane.
Having personally worked w/Haitian unaccompanied minors–trying to reunite them with family members in Florida–I can tell you, with certainty that, no, HHS does NOT “do a very, very good job of putting them in foster care or linking them up with parents or family members in the United States.” These children were kept in a remote (the Everglades) detention-like center…for months on end, their relatives (who, BTW, had papers)made to stand out in lines for HOURS (missing work, of course) to be “reunited”–which rarely–if at all–happened, because, first, the State of FL was to have signed a contract w/a social services agency (outside of HHS)in order to first do a “family study” to certify that the said relatives could, indeed, properly care for (financially) said minors, not to mention a criminal background check. Honestly, to describe all the horror, all of the red tape (unnecessary), all of the incompetence/planned incompetence (you all know what I mean!) of the numerous people from the “cooperating” agencies–HHS, INS, DCFS &–last but not least–FEMA (& I absolutely knew then, in 1979-81, that if this country ever had a large-scale disaster {thinking Katrina, here} that FEMA wouldn’t be able to do a @#%$ thing for a single soul, & that, surely, people would die–exactly what did happen in 2005. And–if someone dares to answer this comment & say that “things have gotten much better” & that John Kelly tells the truth, I’m here to tell you to contact Amy Goodman at Democracy Now to check it out (in fact, have any of you seen her reports about the “correctional center” housing women & children? If not, simply go to democracynow, org). Immigrants, low-income people (did any of you see Chris Hayes on the opiod epidemic in W VA last night? Be sure to check out his show this Monday–7 PM CT, 8 PM ET, & 5 PM PT–when he visits W VA w/Bernie Sanders) & the REAL Americans–the Native Americans–have been treated as less than human for YEARS.
YEARS. Read the book “Methland.” Listen to Democracy Now, go to their website or watch it on PBS (while we still have PBS).
And, most importantly, don’t just analyze & agonize–organize.
The kids are NOT alright.
SO let me get this straight: we don’t want kids in “government schools” but we are willing to put kids in “government orphanages”?
Oh… and those orphanages would be run by the HHS Department that is expected to incur deep cuts in their budget in the year ahead. But children shouldn’t worry: DHS along with the military will be getting a boost in spending, part of which is intended to build and staff detention centers to house the refugee families who are attempting to cross the border to seek asylum in our country. Once the refugee children are turned over to HHS there will be room for the children of undocumented parents who fled to this country years ago, some of whom have paid taxes and held jobs during that time…. But the children those households need not worry: if they score high enough on the standardized tests they’ll qualify for a voucher to go to the school of their choice.
wgersen,
the agriculture industry of this nation is dependent to a large degree of undocumented workers. And we won’t be able to import our produce from Mexico without paying a tariff. Thanks, Donald.
I’m posting this because it is another disaster in waiting for poor people and veterans. The garbage never seems to end. This move would put many poor people back on the streets. Add their loss of health care, under the ‘new improved’ Trumpcare, and it is a disaster for this country. What a way to “Make America Grate Again”.

Trump’s Plan to Gut HUD Threatens the Very Survival of America’s Poor
A budget cut of up to $7.7 billion guarantees mass homelessness and premature death.
By Sarah Lazare / AlterNet
March 10, 2017
…the Trump administration is mulling whether to slash HUD’s budget by at least $6 billion, or 14 percent, in the 2018 fiscal year. The proposed cuts were revealed Wednesday by Washington Post reporter Jose A. DelReal, who cited “preliminary budget documents” that he had obtained. If implemented, the reductions will hit a federal agency that is already unable to meet the level of human need, thanks to systematic defunding over the course of decades.
The proposed cuts would go deep. “Budgets for public housing authorities—city and state agencies that provide subsidized housing and vouchers to local residents—would be among the hardest hit,” writes DelReal. “Under the preliminary budget, those operational funds would be reduced by $600 million, or 13 percent. Funds for big-ticket repairs at public housing facilities would be cut by an additional $1.3 billion, about 32 percent.”
Public housing in the United States already faces a backlog of $26 billion in repairs, according to a 2010 report commissioned by HUD….
The gutting of HUD would take money directly out of the hands of renters in need. The Post story notes, “Under the proposal, direct rental assistance payments—including Section 8 Housing and housing vouchers for homeless veterans—would be cut by at least $300 million, to $19.3 billion. Additionally, housing for the elderly—known as the Section 202 program—would be cut by $42 million, nearly 10 percent. Section 811 housing for people with disabilities would be cut by $29 million, nearly 20 percent. Money available for Native American housing block grants would fall by $150 million, more than 20 percent.”…

The Republican House of Horrors Offers a Terrifying Health Care Vision
Republicans have exploited the repeal-and-replace meme with paybacks to some of their wealthiest friends.
By Roseanne DeMoro / AlterNet
March 8, 2017
..The principal effect of the new bill will be the loss of existing health coverage for tens of millions of people, without any restraints on health care industry pricing practices that add up to massive health insecurity for the American people….
Some lowlights:
• Medicaid expansion, the mechanism of most of the ACA expanded coverage, is temporarily retained, but open ended federal funding would be ultimately replaced by a cap on federal payments that would encourage financially strapped states to slash eligibility of those covered and sharply cut covered services.
• Refundable tax credits would provide less financial support than the current ACA subsidies, and by most initial analyses provide far less help for low and moderate-income people.
• A 30 percent premium penalty surcharge on people who allow their “continuous coverage” requirement to lapse completely undermines the false promise that the bill retains the ban on insurers denying coverage for people with pre-existing health conditions. Even through the ACA health exchanges, insurers routinely change plan designs yearly in ways to increase out of pocket costs and limit patient choice through narrower networks. The surcharge will increase insurer incentives to engage in these practices.
• Cuts in minimum covered health benefits, services now required by the ACA. Those would expire in 2020.
• Elimination of funding for Planned Parenthood is a significant attack on women’s overall health care. Planned Parenthood clinics provide a wide array of needed health services.
• Reduced funding for public health. Elimination of the ACA’s Prevention and Public Health Fund will disproportionately harm low-income people and patients with chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease that will worsen the health of communities and facilitate the spread of infectious diseases. As reported today by Vox, affected programs include the federal vaccines program, and programs to reduce heart disease and hospital acquired infections….
The draft bill includes a roll back of most corporate and high income taxes used to pay for the ACA, and, “as Rep. Keith Ellison has noted, a tax cut for wealthy people’s investment income and tax deduction for health care CEOs making more than $500,000 a year.”…

I saw these statistics. The US does not measure up well in quite a few areas. Politicians really don’t care as long as they get corporate money to keep their power. Here is a summary of where we fall down:
………………
Quartz: The US has a lot of money, but it does not look like a developed country
The US has the second-highest rate of poverty among rich countries (poverty here measured by the percentage of people earning less than half the national median income.)
According to a 2012 UNICEF study, 23.1% US kids live in poverty. Other studies place the number a little lower, at about 20%, but both numbers are much higher than in other advanced countries…
Food security is reflected in both access to food and diet quality. Obesity is a primary indicator of poor diet, and although the US isn’t the fattest country in the world (several Pacific island countries, as well as Qatar and Egypt, precede it), it leads OECD countries in obesity….the US soil’s level of fertility is below the OECD average…
But while Americans spend enormously, they remain in relatively poor health. The US has fewer physicians, hospital beds, and psychiatric care beds than most other economically advanced countries, ranking towards the bottom in each of these parameters. The US is also the only advanced economy in the world not to have full health coverage of its population….
Child mortality is higher in the US than any other advanced economy, and adult Americans also live shorter lives: Average US life expectancy is 78.8 years, nearly two years less than the OECD average. For comparison, Japan has the longest life expectancy in the OECD, at 83.7 years…
In the US, early childhood education is attended by fewer children (55% versus an OECD average of 84% attendance), at an older age (four years old, versus three years old), and can be administered by untrained professionals. Most other high-income OECD countries have specific educator certification requirements….
However, the share of US women who experience violence in their lifetime is much higher than the OECD average (though reporting violence in some countries may be discouraged)….
US women’s political representation also leaves much to be desired, with less than 20% of congressional seats occupied by women…
America excels in access to energy: 100% of the US population has access to electricity. What it doesn’t excel at, however, is renewable electricity sources: Only 12% of US energy output is renewable, far below the European, world and OECD average…
What’s not great, however, is the share of GDP per hour worked: Americans work more time to make less money than most of their OECD counterparts…
Current US investment in infrastructure is only 75% of the average OECD nation…
The US is also one of the countries with the highest number of deaths resulting from car accidents….
The US has the highest income inequality of all rich countries. …
Measuring a nation’s quality of life and development also includes intangible measures, such as the incidence of violent crime and democratic participation. In those aspects, the US fares pretty poorly: Deaths by assault are almost five times as high in the US as the OECD average (with the exception of Mexico).
The US also has one of the highest ratios of childhood death by injury (both intentional and unintentional). This accounts for nearly half of all US childrens’ deaths (pdf, p. 7, 8)….
When it comes to democratic institution, the US has one of the lowest turnouts among high-income countries. (The US is one of the few countries where eligible citizens aren’t automatically registered to vote.)..
https://qz.com/879092/the-us-doesnt-look-like-a-developed-country/
And, in terms of healthcare, we’ll probably see a new low in childhood vaccinations, causing the return of diseases–on an enormous scale–the likes of which have not been seen for decades (& we’ve seen the smaller outbreaks what w/parents not vaccinating their children due to the “vaccinations cause autism” scare). And, once again, who will lose & who will die? Children, of course…low-income & otherwise disenfranchised children. & the infant mortality rate will grow even higher.
Trump has encouraged those who oppose vaccinations. As usual, his views are informed by alt-right websites, not science.
The Orange Buffoon just sent this from the White House. One would never know how much he has accomplished until now. I’m SO glad that his entire Administration is working for the American people. Take a deep breath before attempting to read!

What amazes me is that Wolff didn’t start screaming at this jerk and didn’t reach over and slap him on the face.
I am sure we’ll hear some more good stuff from this secretary in the following months as he listens to the voices in his head. On the first day of Spring, he’d delight us with the following disclosure at a press conference.
In my expert opinion, the following measures, perhaps combined, will serve as a good deterrent against the very dangerous network of illegal aliens.
1) I propose to take out the left eye of each undocumented alien and make them eat it before deportation. We have excellent facilities to do this kind of job in a safe, humane way and our experts would minimize the possibility of any kind of infections. The subjects would still have plenty of vision left through the remaining eye. I am, of course, against complete blinding. We are not in the middle ages, after all.
2) I propose to cut off the right arm of each undocumented alien and post the arms on the Southern side of the the Great Trump Wall with the index and middle fingers showing a cheerful V, expressing our border policy’s success. Modern medical technology makes this a simple, 5 minute procedure for the aliens. No, anesthesia wouldn’t be used because this simple omission saves costs and also increases the deterrence value of this effort.
On the other hand, our experienced and ready-to-serve surgeons (all with US medical degrees) would apply 21st century ways to prevent any kind of infections or unnecessary blood loss to occur. I emphasize that we’d leave the left arm attached to the alien so that she or he can still hug loved ones when he arrives back home. But with the one remaining left arm the alien is unlikely to be able to climb the border wall again, so she or he would have no other choice but carve out happiness for themselves back in the country where they were born.
3) This rather severe measure is to be used on repeat offenders. So if a half blind, one armed alien was caught on our side of the fence, we’d collect all of her or his family members, regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation or nationality, and apply the procedures in 1) and 2) on each one of them, while make the alien watch and contemplate his irresponsible and, frankly, evil ways. Then we’d let the alien say good bye to her or his freshly deeyed and dearmed loved ones (after all, aliens are also humans with feelings and we are not in the barbaric middle ages), and our experts would remove her or his head quickly and efficiently. The posting of these heads every 200 yards on the Wall—making sure, they face South—would be an effective way of keeping climbers out of the greatest country of all.
Gob bless, ya’ll, I gotta run; as you can imagine, I have work to do.
Alec Baldwin is back as SNL’s Trump, and he’s not prepared to battle invading aliens
Alec Baldwin may have said that he won’t be impersonating President Trump for much longer, but the actor returned to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend to play the commander in chief.

SNL this past Saturday was one of their best.
Max, Scarlett Johansen’s talking dog, was very funny
