Thank you, Betsy Deavos, for awakening the parents, teachers, and other concerned citizens about the risk of privatizing our public schools and handing them over to entrepreneurs and religious institutions.
We will fight you. We will stand together against your schemes and malevolent dreams. The public paid for our schools, and you can’t take them away.
The Network for Public Education and NPE Action will lead the fight.
Thanks to DeVos, our membership went from 22,000 to more than 300,00 and it is growing daily.
Help us push back.

That’s a hell of a lot more than Duncan ever did for us. She has no sheep’s clothing and just 40% of a brain.

All of the policymakers in the pocket of the big money groups behind privatization disappoint me. They should be representing the people, but they work to hijack democracy instead.

I too have been very disappointed by these obvious boondoggles and the bizarre defense/promotion of it all. The whole purpose of public AND private operations are supposed to be in service of the people in order to exist. The corporation itself was allowed into existence by law as a means of providing goods & services to the people. It’s very clear – as a means of providing goods & services to the people. Somehow too many have been convinced that the people need to serve the rich businesses, stockholders, and their executives. It’s terribly backwards.

“A new analysis of results of a national educational test shows Michigan students have continually made the least improvement nationally of scores since 2003.
The study, by University of Michigan professor Brian A. Jacob, of scores of the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), also found that Michigan students were at the bottom of the list when it comes to proficiency growth in the four measures of the exam.”

Congratulations and thanks for caring about America.
Those attempting to takeover the nation’s most important common good, ought to face formidable enemies.
Just curious- if Bill Gates shut down his operations, those that are laying the ground work, in the U.S., for his for-profit, schools-in-a-box, how much would it increase national unemployment?
The employees’ current activities add nothing to GDP but, it’s better than Wall Street’s 2% drag. If the Gates/Walton plot succeeds, then, the effect will be a drag on GDP, just like Wall Street.
The proof- Ohio’s largest charter school has 70% truancy.

I’ve said from the day I heard she was nominated that DeVos could be a “blessing in disguise” for We The Majority who are fiercely committed to preserving, protecting and defending our public schools.
So I agree with what you’ve written here, Diane, and I’ve been pointing out the “silver lining” to all of my friends and family who inquired with me about this horrific Trump appointment.
However, I want to make sure that this wasn’t a misprint. It appears too good to be true, but if so, this is the best news I’ve heard in a very long time: “Thanks to DeVos, our membership went from 22,000 to more than 300,00 and it is growing daily.”
Did I read that correctly or did it “only” jump to 30,000—which alone would be an astonishing achievement. Congratulations in either case, Diane. Without your calm, focused, diligent and determined leadership, I’m not sure where our movement would be today.
And we’ll all do our best to bring in as many other members and supporters as we possibly can!

Obama’s RttT was a terrible over-reach and now the pendulum has swung in the exact opposite direction to abolishing the US DoE. Not prudent!
