Badlands National Park in South Dakota defied the Trump administration and continued to send out tweets about the environment and climate change. Its twitter account has been deleted.
“Just days after The National Park Service (NPS) was forced to shut down its Twitter activity over two retweets the Department of the Interior deemed inconsistent with the agency’s mission, the Twitter account for Badlands National Park in South Dakota seems to have gone rogue, tweeting numerous scientific facts about climate change that have since been deleted.
“The first tweet about climate science came at 11:40 a.m. local time Tuesday. It said: “The pre-industrial concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was 280 parts per million (ppm). As of December 2016, 404.93 ppm.”
Several tweets about climate change followed, then the Twitter account was silenced.

I’m sorry to keep harping on this, and I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but everything I learned about the Weimar Republic and what happened to it keeps jumping up into my consciousness. My bad.
But then there’s this from Dictionary.com: “Germany’s Weimar years, however, were a period of political freedom and cultural creativity, both of which were snuffed out by Hitler.” Hmmm……

Gag orders on the EPA and other agencies. Now there’s going to be an investigation of “voter fraud?!” That investigation will signal to the GOP governors to double down on voter suppression which is already quite bad in some GOP controlled states. And we’re only a few days into this misadministration.

Americans will have to get their climate change facts from outside of the United States now that the U.S. is no longer a republic and the 1st Amendment is under attack by Littlefingers Donald Trump and the alternative reality he lives in.

And the scientists did not tweet their findings. Orwell is relevant but governance by Twitter accounts strikes me as problematic.

Unfortunately our compulsive Twit-ter-er in Chief is making tweets a major medium of communication and also the major message from this administration. The message: Do not expect sustained and thoughtful communications or coherent thinking from this President. All that effort is a waste of time, boring, and no one cares.
Meanwhile, Twitter, like almost everything on the Internet is a way to gather data for sentiment analysis and for impression management, including the art of deciding what should count as “news” and for whom.
This short-span “attention economy” is great for comedy, especially satire, But at some point the jig will be up, especially because Trump says so many stupid things in addition to spouting lies….and he will keep his personal Twitter account in addition to a POTUS account.

Yes. I have a suggestion. Do not reward Trump by following him on Twitter.

A new Twitter handle popped up Tuesday evening called “AltUSNatParkService,” which seems dedicated to tweeting out everything that the Trump administration has instructed agencies not to. Looking forward, I suspect there’s gonna be lots of Whack-a-mole.
