This is one of the most important–and frightening–articles I have read in a long while. If you care about the future of our democracy, I urge you to read it.
It is about the takeover of North Carolina by the Tea Party, their tactics, their voter suppression aimed at black voters, and their cynical manipulation of anti-gay sentiment. The article doesn’t mention the enactment of school privatization laws, which have been a central plank in the putsch. But it is a cautionary tale.

Hi, Diane, my browser cannot open that 1st link, but it does open on the bottom one. link!
I read several articles that use North Carolina as an exa,ple of what these emboldened monsters are doing. What can one expect when Donald Trump has appointed white supremacist Stephen Bannon to a senior advisory position. This is a catastrophe, and it does not require Senate approval.
Here is another disaster waiting to happen. Do read it. https://thinkprogress.org/rapid-arctic-ice-melt-economic-trump-98e0e01e23e#.wau9k0khu and , this is a tiny article of no importance, but it offers a look at who this man, who will be inaugurated in a few days, really is. I wanted to cry! Trump Rally No Joking Matter

Wedge issues. Historian C. Vann Woodward wrote of the use of race to drive a wedge between poor white voters in the south and new black voters who had the same economic interests as the black voters. The modern conservative is the logical result of this tradition. Abortion, sexual orientation, and other hot buttons are pushed for effect. The effect is power and the distribution of money into the hands of those who want it.
The people using these issues claim religion, morality, and philosophy of government. Their behavior, however, demonstrates that they do not care for the people who vote for them. Any attempt to defeat these people will have to take into account that their constituency will sacrifice its own economic interests at the altar of a perception of morality. Any group opposing such a group needs to be willing to do the same, to sacrifice itself to attain its goals. It will take personal commitment to defeat those who oppose freedom.

The gerrymandering really trounced the Democratic Party. Attitudes in Raleigh about public education have decimated the system. We have suffered what is probably irreversible damage to our state’s public education institutions on all levels. The power of our individual votes been stripped by the gerrymandering much like the electoral college debacle. The link below has graphics of our districts. We could be the national poster child for what gerrymandering looks like. How it works is very, very scary.

Trump voters: I have to admit I’m surprised to realize just how many people who live in this country are tired of being forced into behaving in a civilized fashion. Poor babies.
