Add your name and express your thanks for their willingness to support public education.

I just gave my local KIPP schools YELP reviews (1 star of course… wish they had an option for zero stars!). I encourage more people to use this tool to inform the public about the privatization movement, resegregation, corruption, who’s on the board, etc.

At this point in time, the site has over 700 signatures, working toward 800. I hope all blog readers will sign. I hope people, who understand the threat that a parallel school system, poses for democracy, will sign. I hope people, who reject an education that short-changes students, for the monetary gain of Silicon Valley and hedge funds, will sign.

Agreed. This is especially true where privatization is resulting in more segregation and separate and unequal schools.

Mercedes Schneider just caught something.
In the wake of the anti-charter, anti-privatization
moves of the NAACP & Black Lives Matter (BLM),
Gates’ people are hurriedly hatching a new org to
present the facade or illusion that there exist
OTHER prominent “people of color” who, in turn,
oppose the NAACP and BLM on this:
These are the …
(DRUM ROLL, please)
“Education Leaders of Color” (EdLoC) …
… who all back to the max all the usual junk:
overall school privatization, charter expansion,
massive testing, test-based teacher/school
evaluation, bogus alternative routes to teaching
with minimal or dubious training, etc.
Mercedes digs into the EdLoC bios to point
out what you would expect from these usual
suspects. These “people of color” are corporate
reformers. It’s names you’ve heard before,
and they all have incestuous connections and/or
prior tenures at TFA, TNTP, Broad Academy etc.
They all currently rake in six-figure salaries, with
funding originating from Gates, Broad,
Walton, etc.

“Education Leaders of Color: Same Reforms, Newly Packaged and Gates Funded
August 9, 2016
“The Gates Foundation is funding a brand-spanking new corporate reform nonprofit (that happens to be stuffed with veterans from two very familiar corporate reform nonprofits): Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC).
(Mercedes GOES THROUGH EACH MEMBER, one-by-one, then finishes)
“In short, it looks like TFA and TNTP are joining forces and trying to reinvent themselves in the public eye in order to make the same test-score-centered, charter-promoting, fast-track, alt-cert, temp teacher reforms appear fresh behind much less whiteness…
” … but with the same white billionaires funding the effort.”
