Mercedes Schneider transcribed key portions of the Congressional hearing into the ethics and performance of the US Department of Education.
Reader Chiara asked in a comment why there were no such hearings when Arne Duncan was in DC. A good question, since the events in the hearing occurred in 2013.

“There are 10– 10 senior officials …at the Department of Education under investigation right now. Mr. Harris is one of them.
Bob Shireman’s another one. Who are the other ones? Because this is an agency that has to function. If we’re going to put the billions of dollars in it, they’ve got to deal with it ethically.”
I believe Congress didn’t do any oversight because they all agree with Duncan’s agenda and Duncan promoting the agenda (rather than elected members of Congress) gives the elected members political cover.
This is why “bipartisan” is dangerous. There is no opposition. It’s all rubberstamped. The same thing happened with deregulating financial entities. I watched that happen. Once Democrats climbed onboard it was off to the races. No one was allowed to even question the basic premise or risk being labeled as standing in the way of progress.

Obama promised us all transparency in government. Obviously, he has failed in his mission. “The IG closed its investigation months ago, finding that the CIO potentially broke 12 federal laws/regulations and/or agency directives. But the Department of Justice refused to prosecute.” My question is why the DOJ refuses to do its job. With such blatant disregard for the law going unanswered and as well as the failure to prosecute the Wall St. frauds, we should work get a thorough investigation of the DOJ.

I have read the transcript and watched the video. I keep asking the same question. Why is there a bonus system in place in the Education Department of the U. S.? It is not a business that rewards management for a profitable year. It is stated that $200,000. paid as a bonus over several years. Education is on a starvation diet in all 50 states while the people who govern it are getting perks! I find this outrageous but it must be common since no one has reacted.
