The Foundation for Excellence in Education, founded by Jeb Bush, but now run by Condoleeza Rice, called for an immediate reversal of the Nevada decision halting the state’s voucher program. They said it would cause “irreparable harm” to the less than 1% of the state’s students who signed up for vouchers.
ExcelinEd Calls for Immediate Reversal of Nevada Education Savings Account Program Injunction
Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Carson City District Court Judge James Wilson granted a preliminary injunction that orders the State Treasurer to stop implementing Nevada’s new education savings accounts pending further court deliberations.
Patricia Levesque, CEO of the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd), released the following statement.
“Today’s action by a Nevada District Judge to block the groundbreaking new Education Savings Accounts program will harm Nevada families and their ability provide a great education for their children. Every child deserves access to the education that will empower them to succeed. And parents should be able to choose the best education option for their children. Today’s action will cause irreparable harm, disruption and uncertainty for Nevada families and the 4,100 children who were counting on these accounts for their education. ExcelinEd calls for the immediate overturning of this Judge’s harmful action.”

When George W. Bush selected Rice, it solidified a pattern of poor appointment choices. The fact that Jeb! recently praised Rumsfeld and Cheney, as advisors, corroborates the point that the Bush brothers, including Neal, are incompetent, malign “deciders”.

Does ed reform ever do anything on behalf of public school kids? Other than selling them ed tech and testing products, I mean?

Oh, they parachute in everywhere. They sent swarms of lobbyists into Maine to push for-profit online schools on the middle and lower classes:
“LePage insisted they stay and dine at the Blaine House and, weeks later, invited them to help organize and execute his March 2013 education summit, where foundation officials had prominent speaking spots. In the coming months, Education Department officials continued to work closely with their foundation counterparts, coordinating their media strategies, meeting at conferences, and securing grant funds to further shared goals in Maine.
By early July, Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen was even cautioning staff that visiting foundation officials needed “to stay behind the scenes” because “the public face of our reform work needs to always be a Maine one.”
Wink, wink, right? The PUBLIC face of reform must always be local. The behind the scenes national lobbying has to be kept quiet.

Chiara,
Manipulation behind the scenes, like the Youngstown takeover, where Ross’ creation was presented as the community’s plan.

How did the narrative get switched from education as a public good to a private benefit? Even though my children left the k-12 local schools years ago, I still pay my taxes to provide a public education for all the children of my community. That money is not chunked into little individual pieces that provide for individual children. I can’t think of anything the schools provide that can possibly be “chunked ” other than possibly textbooks. We can’t break our school infrastructure into child size chunks to follow them wherever they go nor do teachers come in child-size components of equal content. We all pay in order to provide education for all. If we were allowed to bite off chunks for the education of our own children in the manner we choose, does that mean we don’t have to pay anymore once they are done?

The key phrase is EVERY CHILD DESERVES, yet only 4100 children qualify for this funding. Until the state can come up with a program that truly assists EVERY CHILD, they should redirect their funds towards equalizing the opportunities throughout the public school system.

Why do these war criminals keep getting prestigious jobs? Why can’t they be rotting in prison as they should rightly be doing. I have not harmed a soul – can I get a cushy job at a prestigious organization? I promise not to do more harm than these reactionary right-wing war criminals are doing with their advocacy for failing charter schools – not to mention the millions dead from illegal wars in the middle east.
