The same emergency manager who cut off the safe water supply in Flint, Michigan, to save money and caused lead poisoning in many children is now the emergency manager of the Detroit Public Schools. Heckuva job, Governor Snyder.

What next for this “career climber”… Secretary of Education??? How absolutely HORRID!

Snyder gave him a a raise- he’s making 40,000 additional in the new job:
“Earley, who starts immediately, said he’ll earn a salary of $221,000 annually. He earned $110,000 in Saginaw and $180,000 per year as Flint’s emergency manager, according to his contract with the state.”
It looks like he’s the 4th emergency manager the schools have had in the last 6 six years. Complete and utter chaos. No one has a chance to “improve” anything- they’re replaced constantly.

Is this another of those “Good job, Brownie” moments?

There seems to be enough national attention to this to get some kind of real investigation, so hopefully we’ll find out more. I don’t buy that this was about “saving money”. I think it was about someone making some money. It doesn’t make any sense otherwise.

Emergency Managers are for creating emergencies. That’s their job and they are damned good at it.

The man should be sitting in a prison cell awaiting trial for the damage he did to the people of Flint and their children.
Brave New World indeed, where democracy is supplanted in the name of “saving money” and the people sit by and let it happen.
The governor should also be indicted for high crimes and misdemeanors against the state constitution and its citizens.
After Wisconsin, Louisiana, Ohio, and Michigan I’m truly beginning to believe that our way of life based in freedom and as a democratic republic in this country is on the way out, dying with a whimper and undefended by the citizens while fascism creeps into place and takes over everything.

I love the fake-democratic governance structures they’re creating to replace the real ones- “parent and community voice” forums where no one has any actual power, but they’re permitted to speak!
The Obama Administration held a forum on “worker voice”- the touchy-feely “voice” seems to have replaced the much more robust notion of “enforceable rights”. It’s just such a rip-off. Such a bad deal.

PLEASE CHECK THIS POST. THE MLIVE.COM LINK IS DATED JANUARY 15, 2015, SO IS A YEAR OLD. I cannot look more into this; have to get to work. Am I mistaken, or has he been re-appointed to run the schools, or is this just a mistake?

Justateacher,
Darnell Early is emergency manager of Detroit Public Schools. This after shutting off Flint’s safe water supply to save money and telling the people of Flint to drink river water. Many children got lead poisoning from the water. Why is this man walking free?

Thank you, Diane, for the answer. I’m trying to follow this story with the little time I have (due to working so much!). Years ago, it’s more likely that this would have been the screaming headline on every news outlet’s website, newspaper, or magazine. Unbelievable. And yet, now, believable. But wow. I want to try to spread the word somehow.

This is another example of cronyism that gives policymakers a bad name. Also, what message does this send to children of Detroit? We care so little about you we have selected the guy that poisoned Flint Michigan to look after you!

This is an example of the old saying — “Screw up! Move up! This illustrates how little some of the leadership in this country cares about educating our children in the public schools.

Sorry for repeating an oft-asked question, but where does the incompetence end, mand the malice begin?

My question is why hasn’t President Obama declared Flint a Federal emergency and sent in experts to ensure that the people of Flint get clean water and health treatment to mitigate the affects of the lead they have already ingested?
If the people of Flint have to rely on criminals (corrupt Michigan officials) to save them, they are still essentially on their own.

The emergency manager in Detroit (Kevin Orr, also appointed by Governor Snyder) did something very similar, shutting off water for those who could not pay to “save money” for the city.
Michigan is apparently being run by organized crime.

Hey, I live around here. It is on the mainstream news for those who watch the minute or less until the newscasters go to sports or Dancing With The Stars.
In fact, even yesterday “The Doctors” on ABC (which is international) spent their first segment on the issue – http://www.thedoctorstv.com/episodes/contaminated-water-emergency-drink-wine-to-lose-w.
Snyder is strutting around right now at the Auto Show in Detroit and saying all is well in Michigan.
Everything has been “rigged” for a long time.
Should I write my representative, senator and governor?
Or how about I write the new Superintendent of Michigan Education. Brian Whiston? As of this year, with his new state promotion, he no longer is the Superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools, but the Superintendent of all Michigan schools.
What will happen next?
