Not in NYS any more so will pass on taking the survey, but I think it is a well designed survey and will be interested in hearing the results.

If this is successful, we should launch surveys in other common core states.

Thrilled to see this brilliant letter and important survey for New Yorkers! I’ve talked to and written NYSUT to find out why they seem complicit in the sham attempt of the NYSED to appear open to public feedback. NYSUT has been oddly silent towards my questions/concerns.
The AIMHighNY survey is insane. Even if we could trust that our opinions are really going to matter, few working teachers have the time to navigate through the mess.
But the most telling part of the whole “process” are these words from Commissioner Elia in a letter prefacing the survey:
“This is not a referendum on the standards. Only comments tied to a specific standard will be considered…
…The following principles will guide this review:
* Focus on the standards: The review will focus on the substance of the actual standards themselves.
* Improve what already exists; don’t start over: The intent is to improve current standards based on public input from parents, educators, administrators, etc.”
She is so blatant in her denial that there are fundamental problems. She’s still working with the “build a plane in mid-air” model, and can’t admit she’s a naked emperor.
There is no fixing this plane. There must be a substantial re-write, not just an edit job. And engageny curriculum materials must be part of the process of revision, or removed completely.
ENOUGH.
Please.
And complete NYSAPE’s survey. They got it right.
