Dr. Yohuru Williams, historian at Fairfield University in Connecticut, recently delivered a blockbuster speech to a conference on educational justice in New York City.
He begins by quoting FDR on the Four Freedoms, then moves on to weave together the current movements and issues of our day. It is eloquent and powerful rhetoric on behalf of children, justice, and equity.
I promise if you start watching, you won’t be able to stop.
Powerful – more people MUST watch this and actually sacrifice a few minutes and then click that little hand with the thumb pointing up.
Thank you. This is the Rx I needed this morning. Shared on FB. I got range there.
Awesome message!
Wonderful, inspiring message! He should do a tour of urban, African American churches, and get the facts out to parents whose children’s schools are under siege by corporations. He mentioned Black Lives Matter. It seems this group contains a number of TFA members that support charters. I wonder if he has had any discussions with them.
While you are right that he would be an inspirational speaker to mobilize the black community, he needs to have an even wider audience. His message speaks to the vast majority of Americans.
I agree his message is for everyone. Since most of the aggressive takeovers of schools is in black neighborhoods, they should understand what it at stake, and they are not going to hear it on the news.
I worked in a diverse community. We accomplished a lot of networking by reaching out to African American churches. Since many poor parents lacked transportation and worked long hours during the week, we did a lot of outreach on Sunday afternoon, the one time during the week spent with family.
Correction: takeovers are
While he is at it, he should do a tour of the churches in the Hispanic community addressing all those newly arrived immigrant parents who fear rocking the boat but who deserve better for their children! This is a lot more than a race issue… this is a CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE which involves 99 percent against the 1! You do not have to be Black to fight for Black Lives Matter. You do not have to be any particular race to fight for ALL LIVES MATTER. This was a very inspirational video. Thanks Diane for sharing this!!!!!!!
Is the link broken ? I could not get it to work….
Wow…fantastic. When will he run for office? Did you notice that he lumped Eva, Tisch, Cuomo, with de Blasio?
