Educate Nevada Now reports that a review of 3,000 applicants for vouchers finds that only 9 come from families with an income under $25,000 a year. Most applicants have incomes above the state median.

I love the ludicrous situation we’re in- where a large group of public employees spend their work days crafting policy and laws that drain public schools.
Is there anything else in government that’s comparable to ed reform? It’s as if all the employees at the Social Security agency were working on expanding private retirement accounts.
It is a sad day when it is acceptable to kids are treated differently based on their parents income. Please let us remember that kids from affluent and middle class families aren’t the villains here. Let us raise a society where we can all achieve and not pit one class against another. Vouchers are not inherently evil and education comes in many forms. Government schooling, the ranking and sorting of children based on birthdays is a modern construct, one that fails poor and rich children alike.
“Vouchers are not inherently evil….”
Can you give me a for instance of a good voucher?
Parking validation?
Ten posts tops!
The point is that this was sold to Nevadans as a help to poor students in “failing” schools, but the vast majority of applicants are from our two wealthiest areas with the highest test scores in the district. So it is not about equity, as backers claimed, but about subsidizing private school for middle and upper class families. The reason it is wrong is because, once again, people are hiding their actual plan…to destroy public education. These kinds of lies are, in my opinion, inherently evil.
Good analogy.
Unless the amount of the voucher covers full tuition plus meals, transportation, before and after care and all the things that public schools provide for free, then vouchers can only be going to people who already have money available to spend on their child’s education – in other words, the middle class, not the poor.
Yes, exactly. Our district is huge, and what parents have time and money to transport their kids to private school, the majority of which are in rich neighborhoods? The voucher is for less than six thousand, and most “good” private schools here cost far more than that.
Poor people can’t afford the balance of private school tuition!!?!? Say it ain’t so!
The CA AG is investigating online charter schools. Maybe it will be like for-profit colleges, where 26 state AG’s did the investigations DC wouldn’t do.
“The for-profit online charter school industry is the target of an investigation by California Attorney General Kamala Harris, according to a filing by K12 Inc., the country’s largest online charter management company.
K12 received a subpoena in late September from the Bureau of Children’s Justice at the California Attorney General’s office, the company said in its quarterly earnings report. The subpoena, K12 said, was part of an industry-wide investigation. There are 14,500 students enrolled in virtual schools run by K12 Inc., up from just 650 in 2002.
The California Attorney General’s office said it could not comment on ongoing investigations.”
I’d like to say the OH AG will be joining, considering it’s a giant industry in this state but there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell of that happening.

This super voucher is devastating to Nevada. We do not have adequate funding to support our at-risk students. To use any money at all to subsidize rich white people who want to send their children to private school or be homeschooled is devastating. This voucher is also totally unregulated by the extremist Treasurer who says parents will “regulate” themselves.
It is another wealth transfer scheme. It should be pitched out by the Nevada Supreme Court.
Is anyone surprised? Spoke the kids and socially engineer the land. Land Grabs
