The powerless elected school board of Detroit has filed a Title Vi complaint against Governor Rick Snyder for discrimination against the children of Detroit.
The complaint documents the failure of state control of the Detroit public schools. For most of the past 16 years, the district has been controlled by the state. Deficits have grown, enrollment has plummeted, and the public school system is nearly destroyed.
The bottom line is that the state did nothing that succeeded in providing the children of Detroit equality of educational opportunity.
Read the complaint. It documents a history of neglect, experimentation, and destruction. The children were the victims.
With hope, the Detroit School Board will prevail against Michigan’s worst governor in history
We must return DPS back to a democracy, Governor Snyder pay off debt they created, get rid of Emergency Manager Law, dissolve the EAA/return those 15 schools back to DPS, arts, music, and dance programs in all schools. Also, implement competitive teacher salaries/benefits, smaller class sizes, resources, clean, safe, and updated technology in every school building. Finally, establish an environment that will foster and perpetuate real parent involvement (eliminate DPN/PASCA- both are controlled by the EM/Governor).
Well it is about time somebody stood up to one of the most corrupt systems in the country.
This is great news as it shows that the notion that charters are helping minority students is a complete sham.
