Tim Slekar writes of Wisconsin’s efforts to stifle academic freedom and the rights of communities to control their schools.
Slekar writes:
“Once we lose our freedom to self government and once we lose our freedom to knowledge haven’t we truly entered a stage of tyranny?
“So have we? Have we entered a true stage of tyranny? One only need look at the purposeful dismantling of Wisconsin’s public K-12 and university education systems to answer that question.”

Some of the leading scientists in the world fear or believe that climate change has passed a point of no return for the human race. Corporate destroyers of our climate continue to pay legislators worldwide to approve continuation of their industrial poisoning for profit.
Likewise, the purposeful dismantling of public education for private profit and control may well soon hit a critical point. This is not negative thinking or some silly conspiracy theory. This is a grim reality we need to face and fiercely fight to save public education and the continued democratic republic we loved as America.

“Some of the leading scientists in the world. . .”
Not only scientist but the pope himself. Read his latest encyclical (which is the equivalent of the word of his god): http://w2.vatican.va/content/dam/francesco/pdf/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si_en.pdf

Education must warn about the inherent self-interest of big business, not be run by and like a big business, otherwise we will lose all of our safeguards. The media is on the same path.
What will be left? Nattering nabobs of nugatory negativity?

Channeling ol Spiro T., eh!!!
Buchanon and Safire really came up with some great one liners for Agnew to spew forth:
“pusillanimous pussyfooters,”
“nattering nabobs of negativism”
“hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history.”
“an effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals.”
But his alliterations couldn’t save him from “really resigning in righteous wrath” from the vice presidency.

Not channeling, stealing.
In the scenario above, we are the nabobs. But the majority in this age of blog is not silent. Yet that slim minority 1% has such a stranglehold on media and politicians. It’s a new kind of aristocracy and tyranny through coercion.

This is why I am so concerned with STEM education. Let’s face it, under the guise of STEM, the social sciences and the arts have been greatly reduced. Students lose the sense of the importance of civil disobedience in our culture. In fact, 38 states have eliminated or curtailed any Civics program, the very course that teaches how the American political system works. Many states have reduced courses in U.S. History, where students can see the historic trends of civil disobedience in action. Simultaneously, arts programs have been eliminated by corporate education reformers with their narrow focus on STEM, the very courses that teach students to express themselves. Our freedoms have been under attack since before Scott Walker; he just gave these attacks an impetus.
