The New York Daily News reports that Karen Magee of the New York State United Teachers fought Cuomo’s toxic budget to the end, but that Michael Mulgrew of the United Federation of Teachers did not.
According to the Daily News:
City teachers union president Michael Mulgrew angered NYSUT after he put out a statement Sunday night — before the education bill was even in print — claiming victory in beating back some of Cuomo’s more strident proposals, sources said.
While NYSUT President Karen Magee urged lawmakers to reject the measures, city lawmakers said they were told by Mulgrew’s team that voting for the package would not be held against them.
Magee has come out in favor of parents opting out of the state tests to protest their misuse. Will Mulgrew?

Mulgrew has always been a player, out only for himself!

Karen McGee must denounce Mulgrew immediately to show she is not a Weingarten lackey. Last July she sat idly by at the AFT convention when Mulgrew threatened to “punch” anyone who opposed the common core despite many teachers who oppose it were also in attendance.

New York is circling the drain. But this guy belongs on the honor roll! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhTwcqP4xjE&feature=youtu.be Jim Tedesco. Republican and an ex teacher. He shouldn’t have said he was an ex educator, like saying I used to work at Enron. After this he dared the Governor to take the 5th grade exam.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2tXbPzXcPQ&feature=youtu.be
The second video is more entertaining than the first.

Got the name wrong in it is Tedisco, not Tedesco. He may be one of the few honest legislators left.

NO he’s NOT!
He will get away with this because of his position and his obeisance to Weingarten.

Jim Tedisco is sponsoring legislation called the Common Core Parental Refusal Act. It will be interesting to see how that plays out now.

Mulgrew does not sneeze without Randi’s approval. The April Fool’s joke is on all of us.

Mulgrew, like his predecessor, believes in saying “yes” to power, as does most of the teachers’ union establishment in NY City.

What is the relationship among the UTF, AFT, and NYSUT?

The AFT and NYSUT are both controlled by the UFT’s Unity Caucus, which has been in power for over half a century, is the last of the great urban political machines, and operates in similar fashion.
To be a member of Unity Caucus, one must sign a loyalty oath pledging to never oppose Caucus policy in a public venue. This stricture is rigidly enforced at union Delegate Assemblies, where once a month you will witness ostensibly free and educated people slavishly vote against their own collective interests, all in the hopes of snagging an after-school job at union headquarters, or a convention junket to Detroit, or a pat on the head from faux tough guy (and actual Andrew Cuomo lap dog), Michael Mulgrew.

I am supporting the struggles of the urban areas with high poverty and explaining our need to support all schools even if we are suburban and doing well…so the leader of NYC teachers better get his line right.
