The Texas legislature has a set-aside for Teach for America. Way to go, TFA lobbyists!
But that’s not all. The two-year TFA turnover won’t be counted as teacher turnover:
TX HB 1060
A teacher who is employed by a school district through participation in a program that requires a two-year teaching commitment in an underserved area or low-income community and who leaves employment with the district after the two-year commitment is not considered for purposes of reporting teacher turnover information under Subsection (e)(3).

Texas perhaps favors this law because it will shield from public scrutiny the numbers of TFA members in the teaching corps. Just like you can have climate change deniers, you can have teacher turnover deniers. It is a great way to keep the public in the dark about how many teachers leave after two years of service.

However, the turnover that wasn’t really turnover, is verrrry real to the students who’ve had these amateurs teaching them.

Hence why I will soon be known as “The Artist Formerly Known as Title One Texas teacher”-I’m outta here.
In case you wonder about “artist”? All teachers are artists: we work with children to create amazing works of life.

I was a teacher in the public schools in California for thirty years, and I left in 2005. Almost 10 years now working on my art and loving it. :o)

Right on! Children and their learning are works of art and priceless.
I too am working on the other kind of art as well, and am still teaching.

What times we live in, when those that profit from the degradation of genuine teaching and learning actually write into law—
That they can legally mandate juking the stats, torturing the numbers, making ‘hard data points’ both meaningless and misleading.
But when it comes to self-proclaimed “education reform” one must remember that they never ever abandon their fundamental Marxist principles:
“The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made.”
Yes, Groucho, the famous one.
And don’t be surprised if someday in the future we find, for example, that they start using massaged figures in mathematical formulae to evaluate teachers for students they didn’t teach.
Already?!?!?
We have indeed fallen down the rabbit hole…
