At a school board meeting in Palm Beach County, teacher Andy Goldstein sang a song to his superintendent. The haunting refrain is, “What will be your legacy? How will you be remembered?” He calls on the superintendent to opt the entire district out of state testing. He asks him, in song, whether he serves the children or the 1%.
It’s funny, sad, and poignant.

Priceless!!!

Same problems with Eli Broad-trained superintendent Mike Miles in Dallas. A new site just posted, advocating for reforming the destructive reforms brought to Dallas by Miles. Site has static home page.
It is the result of hundreds of hours of reading, web surfing to find out what is behind the chaos created by Mike Miles and his “reforms.” It is mostly a collection of “best” articles based on the extensive web surfing, many from this great, go-to site by diane. Being old-fashioned, I believe “research” is done in a library, combing through the dewey decimal system-based cards, scouring for and digging through actual books.
For site, on phone or tablet, click menu icon to get to list of topics. After clicking on article (computer, phone, or tablet), you do have to hit back button again to go back to site. It is a bit cumbersome. Still working, but information needs to get out.
The hope is that site will serve as somewhat of a hub of basic information about school reform. Critical Dallas elections are soon, the public needs to be as educated as possible. Site is somewhat directed toward the average joe, who may not be willing to spend the extra time putting together an overall mental picture of school reform.
Pass along and enjoy.

Andy is a true “hero” for the kids. Should be on top of the hero’s wall here.
He certainly has the largest and perhaps smartest “cojones” of all the teachers I know

590,000 Common Core tests “completed” in Ohio!
It’s amazing to watch the laser-like focus on public schools during this brief testing period. Schools that have been denigrated or ignored for the last decade are all of a sudden vitally important during this data-collection effort during “testing season”.
I hope our kids perform well enough to EARN the support of lawmakers! Maybe they’ll make the cut, maybe not!
