It was surprising to learn that the Néw York Board of Regents awarded a charter to a 22-year-old prodigy with no educational experience. Peter Greene did some research and found that the young man and his supporters first applied for a charter when he was only 18 and had just won his bachelor’s degree online. He went on to receive a master’s and a doctorate in the next four years, subject not specified, possibly online but not clear. Peter thinkshe may also be an ordained cyber minister.
The question is, why did the Regents refuse to grant him a charter when he was 18? Andre Agassi has lots of charters, and he is a high school dropout. Like, what’s the standard here? Age, money, charisma, experience, or what?
I do believe it is the “what”.
he can be my cyber auto mechanic too!! what a joke.
First thing that came to mind–Marjoe child preacher, later shown as a grown up in a 1972 Academy Award film for Best Documentary Feature about the life of “prodigy evangelist” Marjoe Gortner. Film shows him evangelizing and talking candidly to the film crew about the cultivated showmanship from an early age and his non-belief.
Morris’ LinkedIn profile lists his position as “A Skilled Servant Leader”. What does that mean?
It means he is skilled at limiting the education of the students who attend his school so they can join the ranks of the servile class . . . future servants serving the 2%.
Good one!
Did he do do his dissertation over the phone like “Dr.” Steve Perry, did he go the Deasy route to get his doctorate?
Diane ~ there appears to be a direct correlation between lower and lower standards, almost no standards, to….raising standards endlessly for RealEducators.
Charters & Reformers are permitted to set up schools, hire teachers and teach children.
Hang out a sign & ‘they will come’.
RealEducators must get a degree or two in Education & meet certification requirements in content areas, from accredited universities, Student Teach, pass state required certification tests, be observed endlessly & hope they chose a high performing school to be able to return the following year.
Unions participate in supporting more stringent training and graduation requirements for RealEducators, at every opportunity & whenever Reformers Bash Teachers.
Come on People: Some are just more equal than others.
We lost!
Kids Lost!
Parents Lost!
America Lost!
Your posts echoes many of mine here. My kid went the correct route, and finally got a true teaching job 3 years after graduating. The DOE has a double standard for the truly educated teachers, and the bogus scabs that TFA and charters employ.
The criteria is very simple–connections to our 21st century robber baron class. Our 21st century dual school system is one built on a foundation of greed and yes, the need for a large underemployed servant class. There will be one system made up of traditional private, parochial and well-financed suburban public schools which will educate 30% of the school population and will be the pipeline to some form of higher education while the Charters which will educate the other 70% to work in McDonald’s or as slave labor in a penitentiary.
Diane — Can we sue the Board of Regents for malpractice ?
Very Good Question! All the way around do the same standards apply to everyone?
