Matt Farmer, a Chicago public school parent, wrote a song for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner.
It is called “Plutocrat: The Ballad of Bruce Rauner.”
Please listen. It is a hoot.

I was surprised by this piece about the tennis star making money off charter schools. It’s isn’t deferential and worshipful:
“But in the last few years, he teamed up with investors to start a hedge fund. They don’t run schools. They just buy the land, finance construction, then rent the school back to a charter, typically part of a national chain like KIPP Academy or Rocketship.
Critics of the charter movement have charged investors with lining their pockets on the backs of public education, and Agassi says he had his own hesitance before switching gears into profit-mode.”
Given the huge problems with for-profit career colleges in the US, and how it is impossible to regulate them since our lawmakers are captured by lobbyists, does this move into profits in K-12 raise alarms among ed reformers?

The radio broadcast was much less critical i.e. TRUTHFUL in their coverage. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

The public asset ownership piece interests me. What happens to a community (or public schools) when we change schools from entities the public invests in to contract service providers?
I have a lot less invested in a contract service provider. I think it changes the fundamental relationship between the public and public schools.
I’m still sort of shocked this is NOT IMPORTANT to ed reformers. It could have huge ramifications for public education, but they simply don’t address it. Owned by the public, owned by Agassi, those two things are the same to them. I think that’s nuts.

Fantastic song. Thanks for posting it! At the U.S. Dept. of Education’s website, I left an e-mail suggesting Arne Duncan check-out his still photo and the mention of his name, in the song.

I’m sure it would be illegal, but it would be wonderful to have a bunch of cars hitting the road blaring this song.

Unequivocally (and vocally, Matt “Johnny Cash” Farmer!) brilliant! Sheer genius.
&, no, 2old–we unfortunately hear cars blaring lewd & offensive lyrics on a daily basis, with nothing done, so I’m quite sure your idea is a good one & would not be illegal.
Unless, of course, it’s after the elections, & Rauner won.
