On June 18, Governor Jindal announced that Louisiana was pulling out of Common Core and dropping PARCC testing. State commissioner of education John White disagreed. The state board of education supports White.
Wow! The Governor versus the state commissioner!
Mercedes Schneider brings us up to date on this epic struggle between the governor and the state commissioner he once strongly supported.
The state board of education and White wants to sue Jindal, but apparently they need Jindal’s approval to sue him. Do you think they will get it?
Jindal has put a lid on the Department of Education’s spending. Can they afford to make a new testing contract?
The deadline to sign a contract for PARCC testing is July 30, with a down payment of 15%. Hmm. That could be a problem for Commissioner White and the state board since Jindal holds the purse strings.
Poker, anyone? Chess?

Love it!

Now a PARCC contract is like removing a tic. A hot match? Rubbing alcohol?

Wow. I wish the Commissioner of Education in New Jersey would sue Chris Christie. Yeah, when pigs fly… and I’m not talking about Christie’s notorious abuse of the state helicopter.

Can the Governor fire the Commissioner? As I recall, Governor Huey Long who was in a mental institution but had not been judicially declared incompetent simply fired the superintendent of the institution who refused to release him and appointed a new one who did! Could it happen here? Murray

No, the commissioner works for the state board. However, the governor controls the budget.

Jindal has the state board and state superintendent in a vise, especially via control of the budget.

I just hope he can dump Common Core and not just PARCC. The legislature already voted to keep it. Any ideas?

The legislature voted not to remove it. There is no legislation to approve CC. BESE approved in 2010 but did not rescind the previous Louisiana state standards in ELA and math. In August 2013, BESE included a statement on the books that districts need to teach “BESE approved standards.” The La state standards fit that description; the statement does not specify CC. In fact, no statement in the La register specifies that La districts must teach CC and do so in place of previously-approved standards. This gives a lawyer a lot to work with.

Bobby Jindal has thrown the State of Louisiana into turmoil. Imagine, a Louisiana public offiicial who does not understand that public office in the State of Louisiana gives license to stuff one’s pockets not only with bribes, but also with the hard-earned tax dollars of those who toil for a living.
It is noteworthy that each of the past three State Commissioners of Insurance is in prison .
Furthermore, it was reported that as Hurricane Katrina was bearning down upon the City of New Orleans, a New Orleans ISD truck filled with New Orleans ISD lumber and with three New Orleans salaried employees were dispatched out to board up a structure to protect it from damage from the uncoming Category four hurricane.
Was this structure that they were dispatched to protect a New Orleans ISD school house?
No
Was the structure that they were dispatched to to protect a warehouse that was holding books needed to educate the students of the New Orleans ISD?
No
What was reported on the media is that the New Orleans ISD truck filled with lumber owned by the New Orleans ISD, and carrying three salaried New Orleans ISD employees were dispatched to board up the house of the Superintendent of Schools of the New Orleans ISD.
Meanwhile. said Superintendent of Schools of the New Orleans ISD and his famlly were boarding a plane at the New Orleans airport to fly away to safety.
Is it any wonder that the standard level of accomplishment of a typicalgraduate of the New Orleans ISD is that of functionally illiterate?
I suggest that Bobby Jindal is like a breath of fresh air.

Ahhhhh, I surely didn’t understand that, I guess. So, if it’s not approved, then Jindal can get rid of it? How does he buck White and BESE? Sounds like you are right on with a lawyer tackling this.

Unbidden, the phrase “a falling out out among thieves” has seized control of my thoughts.
Such high stakes, such sorry players—I am not sure whether irony, humor, tragedy or farce is playing out before us.

Agree – two people in charge of too much with too little good sense to do what is right or at least figure it out .

Don’t be fooled into thinking Bobby Jindal has one ounce of good in him. This is exactly what he was hoping the rest of the nation would think of him. Hearing anyone say he is “our man” or a “breath of fresh air” makes me want to throw up.
He brought Pastorek in, he brought White in, he opened the door wide open for the reformers to ruin education in LA. He is dishonest, narcissistic and nuts.
Google and read about him and what he has done to our state. You can have him, but please don’t elect him President.
