Andrew Cuomo told an editorial board meeting that he had the right to shut down a commission investigating corruption because he created it.
“Gov. Cuomo denies interfering with his anti-corruption commission — but says even if he did, he’s allowed to.
Appearing Wednesday before the Crain’s New York Business editorial board, Cuomo said the commission he formed was his to do with what he wanted.
Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara had called reports Cuomo inteferred with the panel disturbing and did not rule out probing the matter. But Cuomo says there is nothing to probe.
“It’s not a legal question. The Moreland Commission was my commission,” Cuomo explained. “It’s my commission. My subpoena power, my Moreland Commission. I can appoint it, I can disband it. I appoint you, I can un-appoint you tomorrow.”
Put another way, l’etat c’est moi.

Why does Nixon come to my mind?

Ha! Michael, you hit the nail on the head! Cuomo is on the ultimate power trip. No doubt he’ll have an epic fail at some point.

Dishonest, disingenuous, and disgraceful. He can end an investigation by command. All the more reason to campaign for 3rd party independent gov candidates other than King Andrew and his WFP cronies.

Wow, in a statement containing thirty-six words, our Reptilian Governor was able to pack twenty-five percent of it with the first person, singular subject or possessive pronoun.
That’s a very impressive feat of narcissism, even for a politician.

Why do I feel that Cuomo is having a tantrum. “Moreland Commission is mine, mine, mine! You can’t touch it. It’s mine, mine, mine!”

I guess he was appointed God. But, from the Greek perspective, beware of hubris.

Indeed, this man will be struck down by his hubris.
It’s not a stretch to imagine that just about everyone in NY, including most of his nominal allies, and certainly the many people who’ve been screwed or strong-armed by him, will take pleasure in seeing it happen.
Until then, however, it seems that everyone but the Greens (and Bharara? We’ll see.) will continue kowtowing to him.

Cuomo is an angry, impotent, flat tire, and his hubris will be his biggest downfall.
How he can think that he can blow with any kind of wind any time to anyone and not think that people would notice just goes to show you what a dud this dude is. . . . he is nothing more than a Hollywood front, a set that looks and feels real but is nothing more than a facade that is designed to make itself look superb and fool the viewer.
How he can go from a Kennedy to a frothy sugar coated cooking show host (whose recipes, BTW, stink to high heaven) is another indication that even he was too conservative for a Kennedy . . . . .
Cuomo is no real democrat, no liberal, and no progressive. But for a democrat, he has been the state’s strongest Republican governor in a very long time . . . . .
It is a matter of time before a high hubris mousetrap snaps down meanly upon the neck of this rat-faced governor.
Snap . . . .

I think Cuomo underestimates the intelligence of New Yorkers and discounts how finely attuned their radar is to self-serving politicians. The more Mr. 1% demonstrates what a dictator he is, the more votes it will cost him from genuine progressives, liberals and working class people –who will be voting for the candidate, not for the party.
Maybe Cuomo thinks Bloomberg brought in enough millionaires and billionaires to tip the voting scale. NOT. That’s the flaw with such disparity in the income distribution. People of lesser means still comprise the majority. Of course, that is precisely why the plutocracy aims to limit democracy and promotes the appointment of a**kissing cronies instead.
I hope Cuomo continues to defame himself with his self-righteous aggrandizements until he boots himself right out of office.

Is this how he is acting more like a Democrat?

Great point! He is not even close.
“New Democrats” often give some pretense of humility before they pull the bait and switch. This guy has no clue how to even “act” like a humble liberal who has a commitment to social justice.
I think Cuomo’s ego has cannibalized his heart.

Cuomo is, sadly, a good example of what the Democratic Party is becoming. Somebody tell me: when did privatizing public education become a Democratic party value? I know with King Andrew, look at his Wall Street contributors. Cuomo is worse than Obama or Arne Duncan – but not that much worse. Obama’s ed policy at best can be described as feckless. But what happened to our party (for those of us who are Democrats?) Were we/ they just bought off?

Would someone please remind me why those of us on the left/progressive end of the political spectrum should continue to vote for Democrats? Yeah, I know, the Republicans are worse, but in the face of statements like this one by Cuomo, along with the words and actions of so many other upper-echilon Democrats (including some in the administration), how MUCH worse can you argue that that the Republicans are? Instead of voting for “the lesser of two evils” why can’t we just be given the opportunity to vote for somebody who is GOOD?
