“Corporate reform movement”–that is the phrase to use to really get the attention of much of the public who are still oblivious to what is really going on. One of the commenters wrote: “Follow the money.” Unfortunately, in our culture, blatant corruption or overkill usually dooms many a greed enterprise, upt values. The statistic cited nabout
About Texan Pearson expenditures, for example, should be the headlines of the New York Times!
It’s taking a while for the trailers to load and play. I suspect their site is being overwhelmed with watchers…at least I hope so! It’s great to see West Lafayette Schools doing this. My husband and I worked for Purdue prior to moving to the PNW in 2000 and the West Lafayette School district was where everyone wanted their children to attend. Good on ya W. Lafayette folks! I hope the School of Education at Purdue is also on board!
Diane,
I know this is off topic, but have you or any of your followers watched Kelly and Michael honoring teachers this week on their show?
It was absolutely wonderful! Each day they honored a special teacher. They showed clips of them at work, with comments from students, former students, parents, and coworkers. Also showed nice long interviews with the teachers themselves and clips of them at work.
It was beautiful to behold. Every one of the teachers were moved, some to tears, as they spoke of their students and their passion for helping kids.
NOT ONE WORD of test scores or grit or any of the other reformy foolishness. All about loving what they do and having great passion for teaching and helping kids. The comments about the teachers from students and parents were heartfelt and showed genuine respect for touching their lives and being inspirational in their lives.
THAT is what it is all about. Just think if others on TV would honor teachers like this. More people would see what it means to be a teacher, what it takes to be a teacher, and how teachers change their students lives. Of course teachers want their students to learn, that is what we are there for. But we are also there for so much more.
I am going to go online to their website and thank them for honoring teachers in the way they did. I hope others will do the same.
