Not sure where to post this, but felt the need to vent. Just finished proctoring 5th grade ELA. I do not think the test was fair or had nearly enough time. If those who support testing want to argue that the tests are insightful tools for evaluating a child’s college readiness, then why any time limit. Can’t we at a minimum agree people read, think and reason at different speeds. Why not let the kids have as much time as is necessary for them to finish? If the main purpose is as they state, then why not? Second, I find it nefarious that 2 of the stories and question sets were from last years ELA. To me this implies they were practice last year and not scored. OK, but I remember clearly that they were both pretty early in the test, meaning students wasted precious time and effort on these two essays potentially burning themselves out before working on the real scored essays. Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but how convenient.
You got me!
