Here are two of my favorite bloggers in conversation. Jennifer Berkshire–aka EduShyster–went to a bloggers’ convention in New Orleans and stayed with Mercedes Schneider. Jennifer spent a day with Mercedes, then interviewed her here. As it happened, they were meeting on the first anniversary of the start of Mercedes’ blog.

A great delight! Thanks for posting this!

Who is Dr. Mercedes Schneider aka deutsch29 aka KrazyMathLady?
Teacher: “Those that know, do. Those that understand, teach.” [Aristotle]
Blogger: “Truth is powerful and it prevails.” [Sojourner Truth]
Human Being: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” [Mother Teresa]
But what about Dr. Mercedes Schneider, numbers/stats person? How could she be any different from all those edupreneurs and edufrauds and their accountabully underlings who massage numbers and torture stats and calculate VAManiacal ratings and count out their huge amounts of $tudent $ucce$$ and determine to a mathematical certainty which teachers and students and communities are worthy of praise and which are worthy of the kiss of death?
Perhaps an old dead Chinese guy can help us here:
The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell. [Confucius]
So that’s why she uses her expertise in an honorable way.
Go figure…
😎
P.S. For the shills and trolls that haunt this blog, the last two words are a numbers/stat joke.
It all adds up…

Loved the interview. I already have a professional crush on Mercedes (and now I even know how to pronounce it) but her fearlessness is really remarkable. What an inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

Great interview. These defenders of public education are not messing around! And I like the way they’re able to hold onto a sense of humor in the face of all this nonsense. That’s inspiring.
Wish I could be in Austin in March to hear them in person, but it’s not in the cards. Maybe next year. For now I’ll just keep donating to NPE.
