The Network for Public Education, formed earlier this year, will hold its first annual conference in Austin, Texas, on March 1 and 2.
NPE was created to give voice to those opposing privatization, school closings, and high-stakes testing.
It demands a positive agenda for change based on love of learning, respect for educators, and dedication to the healthy development of children as good people.
We hope you will be there and join us as we review the status and condition of our movement to reclaim public education and decide what we should do to grow stronger in the future.
There will be speakers (including me), panels, and many opportunities to shape an agenda for meaningful reform of our public schools.
You will meet educators, parents, and community leaders who are fighting for better public schools.
See you in Austin!

Three small hopes because many of us can’t be there in person:
1), That the sessions and speeches will be recorded and uploaded to social media like youtube.
2), That transcripts [at least of key presentations] are made.
3), That something can be live streamed.
I know that Diane’s extensive staff [!] will be busy doing other things, so perhaps these are impractical suggestions.
One can only dream…

I’m a teacher, I’d love to attend; but I can’t; because I’m a teacher, I can’t afford to attend!

It would be great if arrangements could be made for attendees who are on a budget to car pool, stay as guests in the homes of Austin-area supporters instead of a hotel, and get a discount on registration fees. Stuff like that can be very complicated to coordinate, so I understand if it will not be possible.

Conference is around $80.00. Hotel, $120 a night. Share a room, and its less. High, but could be worse. What a deal, to see and hear Diane, Mercedes, and others. I am super excited! Events are unfolding before one can blink!

It is inspiring to see our Ravitchian community here organize, take action, discuss, debate, mobilize, and launch!

Diane,
Are there resources, by chance, to film the NPE event and all speakers? If so, will the quality of the recording be decent?
If not, can you draw upon your general audience to seek expert volunteers who know how to film and record the event so that this can be streamed live?
Please let us know either way when you have a chance . . . .
Sincerely,
Robert Rendo
