Here is a new blogger–at least new to me.
A Chicago teacher–or teachers–is employing wit and satire to portray the out-of-touch socialites who are devoting their time to school reform in the Windy City.
Humor can be a powerful tool when combatting the failed ideas of the powerful.

Yikes! They can’t all be like that – but I haven’t been to Chicago for a long time.

We should add that they talk about all students as scholars.

Stereotyping is not a good thing from either side. It’s demeaning to all involved.

The above article would be funny if this article: http://tinyurl.com/oftktxv, hadn’t been written by exactly that type of person.
The writer, of this article, was moved to Chicago, from Colorado (where he worked for the Ed Reform movement there), to work for the ‘city’. Now he writes ‘Opinion’ pieces under his given name, which sounds very Hispanic even though he was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. He also claims to be a CPS parent, even thought he got his pick of magnet schools and lives in a VERY good neighborhood (all paid for by….you got it the ‘city’). How much more devious can this get….do they really want the tax payers’ public schools that badly? No. but they do what their tax dollars that badly. Greed will be this nation’s downfall (or should I say IS this nation’s downfall already).

Thank you for posting this guy’s opinion piece and for researching his credentials. I was so incensed by it, and wanted to send it to Dianne but couldn’t figure out how to do it. His background information was illuminating.

Fantastic tip! He’s an educational profiteer extraordinaire — cha-ching! I hope he has the opportunity to hear what some actual CPS teachers think about him and his ilk. Great fodder. Many thanks for this info. In solidarity, WCT

The author/deformer you’re speaking of that wrote the opinion piece in the Chicago Tribune, “Perspective: A more accountable, competitive, choice-driven CPS” is spotlighted in Windy City Teacher’s blog December 26, 2013.”Chicago Educational Profiteer Spotlight: Myles Mendoza” http://windycityteachers.blogspot.com
If he, he bothered to read their blog, he might learn something.

Neo liberals who yell and scream about the schools but want their kids in selective enrollment and the like so they don’t get cooties.

Diane, you should try to highlight WCT’s Blog more regularly. They don’t have the kind of ground swell of support they deserve. More people need to read what they have to say and leave comments so they know they’re not alone!

Alicia, I will do that. I just discovered WCT blog. Reminds me of EduShyster. Those with the best humorists win!

Hi everyone. It’s Myles Mendoza, the author. If you are interested in talking one to one or finding out more about me and my policy positions, let me know. While we may disagree on positions, I do care a lot about kids and know you do too. Bringing down the wall of anonymity can sometimes lead to productive conversations. I know we do have some areas of alignment. I can come to you or invite you over to where I am.

Hey, just wanted to say thank you for correcting the error. The writer must have realized that the school my kids go to is not selective enrollment rather based upon ZIP Code. I appreciate the honesty! Again the offer stands for anybody who would like to talk or meet. I’ve had no takers yet.
