Pennsylvania blogger Yinzercation explains the stunning victory of the education justice movement in Pittsburgh. Parents, educators, and community members organized, mobilized, and elected new members to the school board.
The new board canceled a contract with TFA and reversed the closing of an elementary school.
Santa came early in Pittsburgh
FANTASTIC!! Made my day. So glad for my parent friends in Pittsburg!
Glad to hear some school board actually read the contracts and didn’t accept the proposal on faith alone, like lemmings about to fall off a cliff.
Awesome!
I am so happy to hear this for Pittsburgh! TFA should have a different “two year challenge”… the challenge should be the complete and total extrication from public school education within two years (and let us count time already completed thus making TFA extinct now)! I just finished reading some disastrous news for Maryland in “The Answer Sheet” so it is great to hear that TFA is being thwarted there.
In MD, the governor has “as a favor to Obama” decided to take on development of the common core PARCC test (now that apparently Florida has “dropped the ball” and is no longer developing it). The sad part is that the discussion in MD is all about profit for businesses in MD and everyone is up in arms over which business groups in MD will get to profit by making these tests! Is this not outrageous? Take a read and get angry. We should be more concerned about how this testing will impact the learning environment of the students and surely should not be primarily concerned about which business organizations in MD get the business opportunity!

Later you short time greenhorns. Maybe they can all be dentists for America. Who wants to get drilled on? Anyone?
I could use a new roof. Does that come with a two year guarantee?
It is nice to hear some good news for a change, and shows that yes, WE can…and we WILL!!
Reblogged this on 21st Century Theater.
congrats!!!!
Congratulations Pittsburgh! It’s about time someone stood up to them and their hidden agendas.
