In my earlier post about endorsements for public office, I inadvertently left off the names of two candidates who were endorsed by the Network for Public Education. As I said before, these are all candidates who want to strengthen and improve public schools.

Weingarten’s editorial yesterday reaffirming her support for Common Core undermines all the candidates supported by our unions everywhere. By claiming that the AFT supports CCSS, she pushes parents and communities into the voucher/”choice” trap, and discredits honest candidates who accept our support.
That’s a serious danger in Colorado, and a gift to the big money interests behind the Tea Party. Here’s this morning’s Denver Post on their widening investment:

You say she’s a friend of yours, Diane, but she is no friend of teachers, or of public education. She has secured her place at the table of a cabal of billionaires, intent on destroying democratic control of public schools, from every direction. She chose this time to come forward, to impede the ability of the real AFT to fight for our children at the ballot box.

Chemtchr, I have asked in the past if you are the luminous Karen Lewis, but I am not sure if you ever answered . .. or if you are willing to. It’s okay either way.
I could not agree with you more about Randi Weingarten. She is a traitor – and not even a high gloss one any more – to teaching, learning, teachers, students and parents. Our larger teacher unions are a huge part of the problem as they have “partnered” with the reformers, which is code for politically fornicate with the devil.
But the seeds of some very healthy and critical union in-fighting have begun, and organizations like MORE and CTU are prime examples of reinventions within unions.
This will be yet another long, protracted fight, but one worth engaging in.

No, I’m not Karen Lewis. I’m actually an NEA member, but because the NEA and AFT are united in the Massachusetts Teachers Association, I have to fight her henchmen, the same as Karen Lewis did, for a voice in our own union.
A new caucus, Educators for a Democratic Union, is meeting Saturday, Nov 16 at UMASS Boston, on the 4th floor of the Wheatley Building. Our goal is to break through the procedural lock entrenched bureaucrats have on our delegate assembly, and vote some teachers in.
