Sue Peters is a parent activist in Seattle who ran for school board in District 4.
The election was yesterday.
She had almost no money at all, but she had the endorsement of the Network for Public Education as a true supporter of public education.
Some committee in Seattle ran attack ads against her–imagine that! wonder who?–yet she managed to make it into the run off with 41% of the vote.
The other candidate received 47.5%.
Sue Peters is the real deal.
Please support her, send her $5, $10, $20, whatever you can.
Together we can take back this country, one election at a time.
I know and respect and support Sue. Our blog, Seattle Schools Community Forum, interviewed all the candidates and Sue rose to the top. She’s smart, calm, knows our district and will listen before she acts or speaks. In other words, she’s an independent thinker.
I ask for your help because the other candidate has a PAC (created just for her campaign) that has already started a dirty campaign against Sue. The other candidate, Suzanne Dale Estey’s reaction? Oh, it’s not her place to say anything and she’s running a “positive” campaign. So her supporters run the dirty one?
We need to keep Seattle as one of the more independent urban districts in the country. We’ve held the line on TFA and even though charter school law was voted in (on its fourth vote in 15 years and this one was funded by Gates and the Waltons), there is a real and valid challenge via a lawsuit.
Keeping a Seattle School Board that is independent and transparent is the way to do that. Please help us elect Sue Peters to the Seattle School Board.
Hero award?
Superintendent to staff at struggling school: “I don’t care about [the test].”

Well, it’s more about Florida’s FCAT being pushed out for Common Core, but hey, I guess I can still sort of enjoy the comment. Most administrators let alone superintendents would say that about the test, even if the test is in its last year of administration.
Update: October 27th.
Sue Peters has made it out of the primary election with 43% of the votes in a 3 way race. Her opponent out-spent her 10:1 and there was a misleading campaign launched against Peters by a PAC.
Sue Peters has run a strong grassroots campaign which is comprised entirely of volunteers. She has received the SOLE endorsment of the Seattle Education Association, King County Democrats, 32nd LD, 43rd LD, 37th LD and has received an endorsement within every LD except one – which was due to an early endorsement process.
Sue Peters is heading into the general election and her opponent has a PAC that is funded at $100K. The latest contributors to the PAC are Nick Hanauer and Democrats for Educttion Reform. It should be noted that Nick Hanauer threw $1M to pass the charter school initiative. Also, Democrats for Education Reform, I believe is a two person office that is occupied by Tania de Sa Campos and Lisa McFarlane. Tania de Sa Campos filed I 1240 and McFarlane pushed I 1240.l It should be noted that the Walton Foundation rewarded Democrats for Education Reform with $10K for their work.
Tim Ceis is an individual that has made an in-kind donation to Peters opponent’s PAc. Ceis also pushed the charter initiative and is known as the “shark”.
Peters opponent- Suzanne Dale Estey- has a campaign valued at $225K. I believe this is historic.
Clearly, there are individuals that are fearful of our democratic process and want control of our public education system. They will use an expensive negative and misleading campaign to do so.
