Journalist Daniel Denvir calls out Philadelphia’s local NBC station. Its coverage parroted Governor Tom Corbett’s claims without doing a fact check.
Denvir shows how little investigative reporting the local media does.
When they say that the teachers’ union is not “sacrificing enough, ” what they mean is that the union should okay the layoffs of teachers of the arts, sports, counselors, security guards, etc.
It would be nice if the various parties could set aside politics and focus on Philadelphia’s students.

I am repeatedly astonished at what passes for journalism in these United States, and how ironic it is that grossly, willfully misinformed reporters routinely accuse us of not doing our jobs. We’re doing our jobs. Often, we’re doing theirs as well.

The Corporate Owned Media Of The United States (COMOTUS?) is laboring under the onus of a severe conflict of interest when it comes to reporting the facts about the corporate raiding of public education. They have begun to see the possibility of treating public education as just another sector of the distraction industry, and they are blinded by the flash of all the cash they hope to make off doing that.
They will continue to be a major part of the problem, seldom, if ever, a part of the solution.

I agree!
Typical mainstream news reporting in this country…no substance and just a marketing tool for politicians who are owned by big business. Remember AKEC? How about Gates? Waktons? Oh forgot about Obama’s boy, Duncan? Oops, there’s Rahm. Joe Biden’s brother who lives in FL, loves charter schools; he hands are in a few.
I am more than disgusted by the yahoo educational non-policies of this country. We do NOT have a democracy. We have fascism. In fascist counties, the news is another propaganda device. This is why the “so-called” free press ain’t so free. Who owns mainstream news media? Ah…Murdoch and other w—– for money.
Yup…Connect the dots. It!s ALL so blatantly skeazy anyway.
Our government is most corrupt. Starts at the top where THEY want accountability ala the corporate lawyer way, but arrogantly do not think they should be held accountable for the big harm THEY BE DOIN’ to the citizens of this country. It’s SIC. Profits! For profit gotta keep citizens dumb and hire lame reporters. I am more than livid with the DEFORMERS.
The deformers are certainly no Bill Moyers.
The deformers don’t want outstanding, deep, honest, and pithy news reporting…too dangerous for them.

I’ve read that a vast majority of young people don’t even watch the main news channels due to the cheerleading for the Iraq war etc. They see it as corporate media rather than true journalism. After seeing the reporting on education reform from things like “Education Nation” I no longer believe any of the reports from the major channels. I figured since they lie and misreport about education they will do it about anything. I can’t believe the top of the Democratic Party completely sold-out pubic education in this country. They are so corrupt.

“The teachers union is not doing enough” means teachers haven’t readily agreed to give up their salaries to help offset costs of the budget woes. They want teachers to take up to a 13 per cent pay cut. Teachers make many financial contributions already every school day just to provide our students with supplies, etc. They did the same thing to the custodians in Philly last year. They were told they had to give up hundreds of dollars each month if they wanted to stay employed. Would you agree to take a pay cut to save your job?

How many sympathetic reports have you seen about teachers? It’s all about blaming teachers for urban failure, decline of America, etc. A bunch of garbage.
