Will Bunch, Philadelphia journalist, reports rumors that state officials may be planning to privatize all of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia schools tried privatization a decade ago and it didn’t work. But this seems to be the cheapest way to get rid of the Philly problem instead of giving the kids and schools what they need.

Just saw the mayor of Phildelphia on with Chris Hayes insisting charter schools are public schools, as if there is no difference . He didn’t discuss the closing of schools against the building of prisons. It is clear what the elected officials think of their citizens. This is shameful.

Yes, he repeated public and charter several times. He had his talking points and he was sticking to them. He didn’t even answer the questions asked. Hayes needs to have an opposing viewpoint presented. The money is the only thing public about those schools.

I saw it too. What a joke. The mayor is a total bought out liar. These schools aren’t public in truth. They are run by people making money off of school children. Also, he claimed that 60,000 students had chosen to go to charters. Really? Are they there because their neighborhood school was shut down and the charter is the closest school? Also, he claimed the buildings were old and antiquated. Really? Then why is he allowing crooks to make a profit off of charters instead of putting money into the public schools owned by the people. The mayor put out a lot of spin and the anchor did not know enough to counter the arguments.

The mayor of Philadelphia, what a joke. I don’t think that Chris Hayes had any idea what the mayor was going to say. The segment was extremely disheartening.

As a retired public school teacher, I have watched Mayor Nutter promote charters over public schools in the seven years he has been Mayor. He is current President of the U.S. conference of Mayors (Michelle Rhee’s husband, the Mayor of Sacramento is Second Vice President) http://tinyurl.com/lfzgl32 where is has been promoting the corporate education reform agenda.
Last week he joined other Pennsylvania Mayors to demand that Governor Corbett restore the $1 billion he cut from education in his first year in office. Mayor Nutter held a separate press conference with charter operators to say that more money was needed to expand charters.

He is a bought out crook. Any time I see someone spouting the charter expansion garbage I know they are completely bought. Charters are inferior to public schools and are not providing a better education. It is cheaper and junkier. The children get less, not more.

At least it’s becoming clear that the real goal is to save money by privatizing schools for the poor. There’s little pretense that it’s about helping these children.

Mayor Nutter went to the school and meeting of the minds of Eli Broad (Management Institute), along with soooooo many others! Follow the money!!!!
This is as much about Urban Shrinkage, Real Estate and Financial interests, greed and power, then it is about children’s futures or even the countries interests. This whole retooling and reshaping of America and the future is rooted in a design of plan that has global interests and mega power and money behind it.
There are unintended consequences that will catch up with this and the result could be catastrophic. However, for those that live in gated communities (soon to be gated urban cities) it will be later then sooner before they know they are just as threatened by the manipulation of their own hand. These are not apologists but narcissists (they usually don’t back down and continue to live in the lie…until ). Unfortunately, for everyone else it will be people scattering into the winds and trying to find some way to survive. This has been a long time in the creating and now the implementaion. Mayors of cities are one of the components (even though they think themselves all of that and a penny more).
Technology is the key to the empire. Unfortunately, the likes of Darth Vader wantabees have taken on the role of CEO. The beauty of this is that we have moved passed prejudice and the betrayal is coming from all colors, shapes and sizes, religions, and
genders, and nationalities. It is inclusive. The primary players have one color of importance GREEN or whatever color money comes in these days.

Definitely. It doesn’t matter what color the individual is. There are people on the take from every creed and color. Mostly, I see they get a person of color on board to run for office in an urban area. The person spouts the reform bs and before you know it the citizens have been duped. They are a bunch of crooks.

Let’s hope Philly politicians learns what happens when it doesn’t give its city-folk what the need for a decent life for them and their kids – that families go elsewhere. What’s the bet in 10 years Phily is in a death spiral of dropping population/dropping tax take/reduced service provision.

Many of you have expressed my thoughts and feeling about the Mayor Nutter
segment on MSNBC.
Since there is almost silence from the MSM on this issue, I become encouraged when I see that the topic of education will be discussed and people will hear about what the corporate reformers are doing to education.
But once the program started and Nutter stayed with his talking points, I new the truth was not going to be spoken. How disappointing.

He is a Eli Broad Superintendents Academy Graduate–so we know he will play out the privatization of the public school agenda.

FYI Gov . Corbett nominated William E. Harner ( A Broad Superintendents Academy graduate- same class as Hite 2005) to be the New PA Secretary of Education.
I’m not sure how many of the SD in PA know about his agenda.
