Watch this video of Newark high school students.
They know what is happening to their schools.
They are fighting back with the only tool they have: Not with millions conferred by the Walton Family Foundation or the Gates Foundation or Mark Zuckerberg or Democrats for Education Reform.
With a student-made Youtube.
Student power can stop the attacks on public education.
Thank you, Newark Student Union.

LOVE it! this is what teaching critical thinking skills gets you: an informed population willing to stand up for their rights.

Wow, wonderful, inspiring, they show us how to stop the de facto coup underway as states and the feds seize powers and destroy the public sector…spread this and watch the tide turn.

Great video. I would suggest as a follow up that they have a longer one in which the students go into what they have found in this years budget and compare it with the past. I have long thought that this would be a great student tool as a real math application and conceptual thinking tool for several reasons and outcomes. If the students show that they can analyze the budget and see through the lies then more can. Then also high school students can have more input into the process which directly effects them. I know video works. Once, after I had notified LAUSD on our civil rights organization letterhead that I was going to a public meeting in which I have a legal right to record they had waiting for me 9 LAUSDPD, a canine unit, Earl Perkins, Asst. Superintendent, and Greg McNair who is the # 2 in the General Counsels Office. We recorded it all on both audio and video as they stopped me and the conversation later outside of the building. They stated that LAUSD can do anything they want to, make up anything they want to, do not care about breaking the law, do not care about the U.S. Constitution or freedom of the press as I have a press pass. Later, due to a call made to the media they let that media in to record what they refused to me. Their press pass is no better than mine now is it. Video is powerful and there is no way they can say “I did not say that.” Our former D.A. would not deal with these legal cases under the Brown Act, or open meetings laws. This D.A. is now under the gun for corruption against his deputy D.A.’s. Typical, isn’t it.

This is a beautifully executed, extremely powerful video. It absolutely blew me away.
If the students created this themselves, we need to hire them on to create more for the national opt out movement and for anti-privatization messages.

I’m a teacher in Newark Public Schools. The reaction by administration and teachers is out of control. The main focus has not been on the issues at hand, but on making a list of students who walk out.
