A reader in Michigan writes:
Hello, Diane,
I have been following your blog since November, and find that it really informs my work as a principal and as the State and Federal Relations Coordinator for MEMSPA (Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association) and NAESP. And I am interested in following what is going on around our country. One principal and teacher at a time, I am spreading the word.
This article was recently published in my school district’s local newspaper. Imagine: a legislature that does not know what the public wants, but just what special interests want.
Survey shows Michigan lawmakers and residents don’t see eye to eye on education reform

As usual the public does not count as they are not the ones who give the big campaign contributions and have to make all the promises for that money. I just downloaded the report and will read it in detail. All K-12 has everything to do with what happens in the future in the criminal justice system. It all matches up when you look at the data.

Slight edit needed: “Imagine: a legislature that does not CARE what the public wants, but just what special interests want.”

Stacey — I am a principal in New York. I just want to share with you that the parents of children in my school are concerned that with all of the standardized testing , the notion of test scores being stored in a data warehouse has created great angst. Will student SOCIAL SECURITY numbers be stored also?? Do the parents need to worry about IDENTITY THEFT? Will CONFIDENTIAL HEALTH information be a available as well? How can all of this testing be done without signed parental consent?? You may want to start discussions about these issues. If confidential information gets breeched , who is liable– the school district ?? The state??
