Texas teachers do not automatically get tenure and annual step raises are a myth. Teachers can now be hired over and over on term contracts. Salary schedules are adopted each year so the Step 2 salary this year is the same as the Step 1 salary last year (etc.). Fort Worth ISD does not hire any tenure-track teachers and there have been no raises since 2010, although we did vote a 1% one-time bonus this year.

Teachers in a south suburb (surrounded by Chicago on three sides) are preparing to strike. So far, I think there are 3 districts on strike in the municipal area. My classmates and I, all doing our student teaching in various schools, are glued to the developments.
