According to Laura Clawon of the Daily Kos, StudentsFirst selected a Georgia legislator as its “reformer of the year.”
Unfortunately this gentleman is known as vehemently opposed to immigration, and StudentsFirst is now facing protests from immigrant groups.
At some point, people will figure out that Michelle Rhee claims to be a Democrat, but she is known among educators for supporting the governors of the right. Like Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Scott Walker, Rick Scott, and Mitch Daniels. She enjoys firing people. She stands with the for-profit corporations. If she is a liberal or a Democrat, where’s the evidence?

Chicagoans ask the same question about their Mayor Emanuel.

She was interviewed by local public radio, (WAMU-FM) education reporter, Kavitha Cardoza at the RNC yesterday. When asked if she would accept a Cabinet appointment as Secretary of Education, she swore there was no way she would as a Democrat. (Forget the fact that she wouldn’t be able to get through a confirmation hearing. Although that might be a real spectacle. Oh I would enjoy that.)
The other interesting thing to note is that StudentsFirst supported the DREAM Act. What a turn of events. At least some group other than teachers is protesting this organization. Maybe some good will come of this.

Maye they meant to do it. LOL.

She is showing her true colors. She stabbed the Dems in the back, but they are too weak to call her out on it. And frankly I can no longer tell the difference between the Republican and Democratic education agenda. Ones a slow and painful death and the other just shoots first.

Chip Rogers is the most divisive politician Georgia has going and his animosity toward public school makes Bobby Jindal look progressive. He set up his own local school district, a particularly good one for the state of Georgia, to remap it to create a have and have not situation- all the time while his own children did not attend public school. The local area did not buy into it at all and he is roundly criticized for meddling. But, he is the biggest proponent of private school vouchers ( wonder why since his own kids don’t go to public school) and of charter schools this state has. He is an ignoramus and his name is synonymous for blow hard politician who knows nothing but his own ultra conservative agenda. He is anti immigration, anti public school and anti anything that isn’t the extreme right side of conservative republican. Nightmare.
There is a huge push going on to get charter school legislation put on the books here in November even though the proposal got shot down in recent primary elections. The governor stepped in and said that yes, charter school vote should be brought up again. Chip Rogers was behind that lovely decision and also widely criticized the Ga state Superintendant of Ed who bucked party lines to say that the state could not afford to have any state money diverted for charter school department when it couldn’t even fund the public schools what it was owed. Money diverted to pay for charter schools would have gone on even though the local school districts may or may not agree to have those charters there. Some districts are already cutting one to two weeks off the school calendar, bus tranporation cuts and there no caps on class size which means that 40 – 50 kids to a classroom are perfectly allowed. Teacher salaries are frozen and health costs are up and furloughs and layoffs are. Nurses and librarians positions are also tenuous at best and Chip Rogers, bless his heart as the saying goes, thinks that public schools get too much money as it is. Chip Rogers is considered a country club buffoon and this is the best that Students First can come up with? Sounds about right.

Chip Rogers is quoted as saying that Bobby Jindal vouchers should be the model for Georgia. Stupid is as stupid does. There has to be a playbook out there that makes these guys impervious to how ignorant they sound. Ed Deform Echo Chamber.
Georgia has some sparkling good public schools that in their areas of specialty compete with any other school nationally. None of these schools gets much press and they got that way despite the actions of Chip Rogers and his ilk cutting public funding from almost 50% to 30% in ten years.
Can you tell I have a bone to pick about Chip Rogers. Don’t even ask what his thoughts about science education should be. There are as far removed from what it should be as Bobby Jindals.

“stupid is as stupid does” Well said. I don’t know Chip Rogers, but I do know about Jindal. BTW, this may not sound very nice, but it sounds like Chip needs to get on a horse and ride out of town. Does he ever wear a cowboy hat? I don’t think I’d ask Roy to ride out of town, but then I don’t know what he’d say about all this ed reform.

It is exactly what the state of Georgia needs- a nice ride out into the twilight with his dog and pony show but he is a fairly young guy so it probably not going to happen any time soon.

Typos and grammar due to seriously bad attitude- sorry. This man should not be nominated for crossing guard captain let alone a national educational reform platform. Oh, actually, it just dawned on me that this is great. It will highlight how awful students first actually is.

It is probably the same evidence as that the “democrats” who are members of the Democrats for Education Reform use.
