A reader asks a reasonable question about the concert in Los Angeles tonight celebrating a film that disparages teachers, public schools, and unions:
Here’s another thought. You could also contact the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the American Federation of Musicians to express your opinion about this situation. It does seem a little odd that professionals in these unions would take part in a production that is sponsored and promoted by private parties intent on disparaging professionals in a different union. Just saying.

We need to respond to all who support this blatant disrespect of educators and other causes which enable failed political leaders to use teachers as their scapegoats. Just take a look at what is happening here in Ohio. We several school districts who have hire slick, sly law firm, that sells itself as “union busters”. This firm then proceeds to “help” school districts bully, intimidate and force unfair contracts on educators.
Enough damage has been done to drive many caring, dedicated, effective teachers out of their profession.

I called Sag-Aftra. Not easy to lodge a complaint. They said had to be a member but I insisted and spoke to someone beyond the receptionist. On the whole didn’t seem to receptive.

What happened to all unions standing together? First the teacher unions, who is next?

Another place to call is the CBS corporate switchboard at 212 975-4321. I saw it in an advocacy ad in the WSJ that was ironically directed towards CBS News Chairman and 60 Minute Executive Producer, Jeffrey Fager.
It never hurts to give them a ring or a bleep-bleep.

Garth Brooks lines were “teachers are just like your mommy and daddy and teach you all the things you need to know in life or something like that… That right there is the problem. I don’t want any teacher thinking they are taking my place as my childs parent for a third of their day. They aren’t taking my place at all period. If society and teachers would just teach the kids the normal subjects and get off this God stool there on thinking they need to teach morals and tolerance and all the other stuff they wouldn’t be having the problems they’re having. Teach my kid and stay out of his family business. It isn’t your family. You are not a foster parent that has my kid part of the time.
