The Daily Beast posted startling news from a Sarasota police report. The Ziegler power couple sought out women for their threesomes. Bridget Ziegler was a co-founder of Moms for Liberty and an outspoken critic of LGBTQ+; Christian Ziegler was chairman of the state GOP. They liked threesomes.
Newly released documents say Moms For Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler and her GOP chairman husband went “on the prowl” in Sarasota bars to find women to have sex with.
Text messages quoted in a Sarasota Police Department (SPD) memo that was obtained by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune revealed how Ziegler sent her husband, Christian, hunting for a third sexual partner at local bars and directed him to send photos of possible hits. She allegedly told him to pretend to take pictures of his beer while photographing the women so he wouldn’t get caught sneaking pictures of them…
The Zieglers, a local power couple in Florida Republican politics, were at the center of a sex abuse scandal after a woman alleged that Christian had raped her while she was involved in a three-way relationship with the pair. They were both ousted from their respective positions at the Florida GOP and the conservative Leadership Institute, although charges were never formally issued. Bridget Ziegler also faced a barrage of attacks for her “hypocrisy,” since she had taken a very public anti-LGBTQ+ stance but had engaged in sexual relationships with women.
Wary of what further revelations would cause for their torpedoed reputations, Bridget Ziegler had sued to keep the records kept by SPD and the State Attorney’s Office sealed from the public. That case is pending in Sarasota County, court records show.
I received this article from my friend James Harvey late last night. He remarked on the hypocrisy of some of the Christian Right’s moral leaders. There was Jerry Falwell, his wife Becki, and a 20-year-old pool boy. There was the president of the ultra-conservative Hillsdale College, George C. Roche III, who led the college for nearly three decades. He allegedly had an affair with his daughter-in-law over 19 years; she committed suicide. Hundreds, thousands of religious leaders—the people who are supposed to teach us about morality and ethics—have been accused of pedophilia (google “pastors or priests or rabbis accused of pedophilia” or “sex abuse”).
Hypocrites.

There is a pretty amusing meme for the wild-n-crazy Zieglers, a fake movie poster for “Three-Way at the Book Burning.” These people.

One of my favs was the guy named Rekers (how perfect is that?) who was a founder of the anti-LGBTQX Family Research Council and an advisor to a gay conversion therapy outfit for teens who was caught coming back from Europe with his male escort. Novelists out there: don’t even try to top the real-life absurdities like this!!!
I thought back when John Ashcroft put a blue curtain in front of the naked Lady Justice in the DOJ building that BEING THESE PEOPLE IS ITS OWN PUNISHMENT. They are so repressed and twisted.

Or how about the conservative Republican Congressman who was arrested for soliciting sex in a men’s bathroom at the airport? I think he said he had “a wide stance.”

Bob, I corrected an error in one of your comments. You said Herbert Hoover was a closeted gay. No. It was J. Edgar Hoover.

BTW, while we are on the topic of sexuality and repression, I’m going to come right out and say this:
Uncancel Spacey. He is a genius. He is one of the finest actors who ever lived–up there with Sidney Poitier, Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Joaquin Phoenix, Robert DeNiro, and Al Pacino. What Picasso was to art, what Beethoven was to music, Spacey is to acting. He. Is. Brilliant. We need his art, his craft. He had a drinking problem. He made mistakes. He has consistently been found not guilty by the courts. Enough.

Are you going to stop watching films by Charlie Chaplin and Errol Flynn? Listening to music by Elvis and David Bowie? These people did far worse than Spacey ever did.

These poor people. They have gone through hell, which is mind-forged, ofc. This happens so frequently, and it is so sad. Consider the case of in-the-closet gay persecutor J. Edgar Hoover. Years ago, I took a test and scored really well and was moved from 5th grade to 7th grade. So, I was small for my age. In 7th grade, a rotund bully used to meet me every morning at the bus, yelling “Faggot.” So, one day we had a film in the gymnasium. We all sat on the floor. When the lights dimmed, this guy came and sat down next to me and started feeling up my inner thigh. SURPRISING? OF COURSE NOT.
“Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse unacted desires,” wrote William Blake in the Proverbs of Hell. He knew that repression takes hideous, horrendous forms. How many lives did Hoover destroy because he could not face the fact of his own homosexuality? So, one way in which these people, these repressed people, deal is to practice repressive business as usual most of the time and then blow off steam and repent, wash, rinse, and repeat. This has to be extremely emotionally taxing.

I agree with this condemnation of hypocrisy, but this blog is way too partisan to admit that there are also many examples of appalling behavior by liberal/Democratic figures.

Here’s the difference: Bill Clinton, for example, wasn’t running around giving speeches about the virtues of monogamy and campaigning for monogamy instruction in schools.
The difference is hypocrisy.
And no, I am not defending Clinton, though I suspect that he and Hillary made an accommodation long, long ago. Adults can decide to do that, and it’s their business. And no, he should not have been having an affair with a freaking intern.

John F. Kennedy was worse. The intern he slept with was a MINOR. So, that was rape. Minors cannot consent.

Of course, the current GOP Glorious Leader is an adjudged rapist and a serial philanderer and sexual predator. When asked by Barbara Walters about why he was having an affair with Marla Maples while still married to Ivana, he told her that Ivana had “ruined her body” having children, and that he, Trump, was very, very rich and could do better and have anyone he wanted.
What an utter POS. That, I think, represents the very bottom of depravity. Ugly bastard.

You are quite right, Becky. There are Democrats who have been embroiled in sexual scandals. It is not partisan behavior. What makes Republicans liable to the charge of hypocrisy is that they pass legislation to ban behavior they engage in. As a rule, Democrats don’t denounce gays, Republicans do. So when Bridget Ziegler, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, insults a fellow school board member because he is gay, when she censors books because they include gay characters, when she makes herself a guardian of moral purity, she sets herself up as a hypocrite because the public now knows that she likes gay sex.
If any Democrats do that, they too should be exposed.
