Some Dam Poet writes about accountability:
“Accountability”
Accountability is for students
For janitors and teachers
For those who flip the burgers
For those who clean the bleachers
For those who wash the dishes
For those who build the roads
For those who catch the fishes
And do the laundry loads
For those who do the weeding
For those who walk the dogs
For those who clock the speeding
For those who slop the hogs
For those who build the school
For those who fix the pipe
For those who truck the fuel
And pick the fruit when ripe
It isn’t for the wealthy
Or those that they install
In Chi Town and in DC
It’s not for them at all

As always, you have a way with words!

That sums up the current state of accountability quite nicely! Thanks!

It’s not for those they installed in Flint, MI either.

You hit the nail on the head… we are in a time when there is not a shred of accountability for anyone with power. The media is partly responsible, for hiding the real stories, so that the spotlight never falls on the real charlatans, liars and criminals.
ACCOUNTABILITY for their immoral and unethical behavior allowed principals and administrators in the nineties to harass teachers in ways that are hare do grasp.

Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement and to Diane for posting that.
Not that i really need encouragement (as some may have noticed)
All the poems that I have written have been inspired by the great posts and comments I have read on this blog. I like to think of myself as a kind of “channel” (that can’t be switched off, unfortunately for some)

Incidentally, many are probably already aware of it, but for any who are not, the above poem and many others can be read/ downloaded (free) from A DAMthology of Deform (a pdf on google drive).
I keep the “DAMthology” pretty well updated with the “latest and greatest” (or latest, at least). It’s up to 56 pages so far and there seems to be no end in sight (unfortunately).
Feel free to pass the link around and/or make copies and give them to the people you love (Arne Duncan, Mery Tisch, John King, etc).

SomeDAM Poet,
Thanks for the mention in your collection of poetry. That sign on a wall in Hartford, Connecticut, faces the building occupied by Dr. Steve Perry’s No-excuses magnet school. It was painted by a former art teacher in the school. I met him a year or so ago, and he emailed a copy of the photo to me. I had it blown up to 8×10, framed it, and it sits on my desk. “Schools are not a business, they are a public good.”

SomeDAM Poet, great title: A DAMthology of Deform.

Thanks.
That was actually inspired by a comment that suggested i compile all my poems in an “anthology”.
And, of course, “DAMthology” is the obvious extension for the given context.

SomeDAM Poet,
I respect your wish for anonymity. But would you mind telling me whether to refer to you as “he” or “she”?
