Carol Burris writes of the terrible consequences that will follow implementation of Governor Cuomo’s teacher evaluation plan.
She urges support for the plan created by seven (of 17) dissident members of the Néw York Board of Regents. Almost all are experienced educators who have carefully reviewed research. Cuomo is not an educator and obviously paid no attention to research.
Two more Regents and the dissidents are a majority.
Lester Young of Brooklyn? Roger Tilles of Long Island?
What about Benit in Manhattan? Should we email him ?
Thank you Diane! Folks can find contact information for their Regents here

Will NYSED be using a “year-to-year” growth model? Or, will pre-tests be required?
We are proud of you Carol and behind you 1000%.

Where are the Brooklyn and Long Island teachers?
It seems like Tisch and Cuomo are a deceitful duo that designed a formula that would allow them to fail the requisite number of teachers and school districts in order to forward their scorched earth policy on New York’s public schools. Shame on the cowardly men that have abrogated their responsibility to New York’s young people when they are supposed to be stewards of public education in New York. Residents should contact the remaining members of the Regents and urge them to support the dissentlng Regents. They need to feel the outrage of the public.
The belief in the efficacy of democratic principles has been usurped by autocratic, top down ignorance. None so blind as those who will not see.
Like WWI soldiers commanded by generals who knew not what they were doing, sending men to die by the thousands while gaining nothing, then shooting them for cowardice when they refused to be mowed down my machine guns etc, teachers and public schools are stressed out by fascistic ignorant demands from moneyed and powered interests.
Hopefully before too much more damage occurs people will rise up against this tyranny of thought.
Democracy or totalitarianism?
Carol Burris writes, “Watch carefully this week to see who has the courage to stand up for children and the profession of teaching, and who does not.”
Exactly. Courage IS the word.
Carol, what a great piece of writing. You frame the decisions we all face today as educators.. Thanks for your hard work and leadership.
