Gerardo Barboza has translated the letter of protest against league tables into Spanish.
He writes:
Dear Dr. Ravitch,
Please find the translation of the “Open letter to Andreas Schleicher, OECD, Paris” into Spanish language at http://www.englishincostarica.org/cartaabierta.html. It is my contribution to the invaluable efforts made by you and the distinguished group of scientists and academics around the world concerned with the current state of education internationally.
Sincerely, Gerardo Barboza
The hispanic population gets largely overlooked in all of this due to communication barriers. It’s an issue we need to address in order to bring these concerned parents and caregivers to the table.
Sorry to hijack this post . Some incredible, excellent news: Ras Baraka was elected mayor of Newark. he said:
“We are the mayor!” Mr. Baraka shouted at his victory party, as a six-piece funk band played an original song with the refrain, “Who did we vote for? Raaaaas Baraka.” Mr. Baraka added, “The people of Newark are not for sale “>
This is a win for the students, parents and teachers of Newark and provides a counter weight to the dismal and depressing current situation in the schools.
Some school districts have children with more than 150 native languages. I hope some other translators will step up to the plate. It is also important to note that the translation, while important, is really for parents and others who are politically astute and recognize how important educational policies are.
