Eclectablog of Michigan continues its invaluable reports on the stste’s disastrous so-called “Educational Achievement Authority.” This one contains the testimony of a special education teacher.
Governor Snyder has created a streamlined version of the school-to-prison pipeline.

The teachers are simply wrong. Here’s national education czar Eli Broad in the Detroit media, presumably sent from his home in Los Angeles.

He says the EAA is a HUGE success and should be expanded. Quickly! Before anyone has a chance to find out what’s actually going on there 🙂
“In the EAA, students attend a 7.5-hour school day, 210 days a year — compared with six hours and 180 days in the typical Michigan public school. That extension alone equates to an additional six
years of schooling for a student who starts in kindergarten. Each student has received a tablet computer and learns at his or her own pace. .
In five months, 22% of students have made more than a year of academic growth in math and 27% have advanced a year in reading.
These successful results should not be limited to only Detroit schools. We support the smart expansion of the EAA when it has the capacity to add schools statewide that are failing the majority of their students.”

Our illustrious governor is not the nerd that people claim him to be or he himself claims to be. Our progressive Rino has never met a federal dollar that he didn’t love. He’s got his own agenda and his own cadre of minions who do his bidding and consequences be damned. The EAA is one of these pet projects. Lisa Lyons, who is the chair of the Education Committee was a big cheerleader for the EAA. It should be noted that her father is a past Lt. Governor and gets his 2 cents worth through his daughter. She also never makes a move withoug consulting him. And our governor wants to bring in 50K immigrants to Detroit because there are no MI people “qualifled” for these jobs. Well, well….I guess that just goes to show him that his Common Core isn’t going to work. So much for all kids learning equally through common core and STEM.

I am not at all surprised that teachers would wish to remain anonymous. You have to be careful of what you say in a “hifalutin” [sic] district much less in a district that has made no secret of their “my way or the highway” school of management. Let’s face it; it is an extremely unusual district where a teacher is free to express an opinion that is not the party line. Not knowing what is politically correct will definitely shorten your career. If nothing else, the decades long siege on the teaching profession is teaching us to watch our backs and keep our mouths shut.

Every place is a scary place for kids with disabilities. Except this place (that doesn’t exist yet) Special needs kids are different, however all kids are different. That’s what makes them human beings. http://savingstudents-caplee.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-personal-map-to-success.html Here, they blend in the same way all kids regain their dignity
