NPR says Rahm Emanuel gets a “mixed” grade at midterm.
On education, his grade is not mixed.
It is a big fat F.
He will remembered long after his term ends as the mayor who closed 50 public schools.
He will be remembered as the mayor who showed callous indifference to the children of Chicago.
He will be remembered for putting Rich Investors First.
He will be remembered for his contribution to the destruction and privatization of public education in Chicago.
He will be remembered because he did not fight so that all children had the opportunities available to his own.
Amen. Exactly right, he sabotaged the education of the public school students of his city whom he was sworn in to protect.
As they say in the article, how you feel about Rahm depends on which side of the tracks you live on.
Karen Lewis for mayor!
As I ready myself to “teach it up” daily, I think of the best teachers I had growing up and how I can emulate them. I also think of doing my best daily as if my own kids were in my class.
You are correct in pointing out that Emanuel has failed to consider doing the best he can in his position for the children of other people.
He is an elitist bully and will be judged accordingly for a very long time.
An F is way more than he deserves. What is the grade lower, I forgot?
Troll?
(Harry Potter reference)
I think his grade should be “ineffective”
NPR Grades Rahm?
That’s a little like the flunkies grading the flunky, I should think.
Jon, you are correct “losers with losers.”
Reblogged this on 21st Century Theater and commented:

P.S. NPR has been on the neoliberal train for a couple of decades, cheerleading war and corporate culture. We should all tell them to get off – or something more colorful…
At what point should his ouster be called? At the very least a public exploration of that outlines his egregious actions should he gathered and weighed. If recall seems unlikely or organize, surly a candidate could be found to oppose him in the primary. Given the time constraints to pull off a campaign against an incumbent now would be the time to coalesce around someone who night have fighting chance IF their coffers were filled even at a 10th of what he will raise .
I don’t care how much campaign money Rahm has been raising, that’s primarily from his neo-liberal corporate cronies so life would be MOTS if he’s re-elected. Rumor has it even machine politicians don’t like him. Many minority voters have been marginalized and are outraged by his actions. Most likely, his days are numbered. If only we can get a decent human being to run against him. I guess a mensch who is a politician would be an oxymoron, especially in the windy city. I can’t even think of ONE person like that in Chicago. Too many rubber stampers. Can we clone Di Blasio?
He’ll also be remembered for not addressing Chicago’s homicide problem.
I was casually listening to this on NPR, but came away with message that poor Raum was catching heat for closing some 50 schools, but declining population was really the cause. One person (don’t recall who) interviewed expressed that view and nothing more. Story moved on to next point like rising crime rate or how much money he already had raised or his management style. Was a short, very superficial piece.
AND that about 50% of the children who were scheduled to change schools did exactly that – to private schools. School funding for next year will take a big hit because enrollment figures are used as a base for funding.
Ad Nauseum!!!
Too bad Rahm can’t be prosecuted for child abuse.
And he has Presidential aspirations??? God help us all.
