In an interview with New York magazine, outgoing Mayor Michael Bloomberg accused frontunner Bill de Blasio of running a “racist” campaign. He graciously conceded that de Blasio is not a “racist” personally, just that his campaign is racist.
He accused de Blasio of appealing to the black vote by showing off his biracial family. The website Buzzfeed was quick to point out that Bloomberg knew how to play identity politics too.
What bothers Bloomberg is that de Blasio may well be his successor and has shown no deference to Bloomberg. In fact, he has been the mayor’s sharpest critic. What an insult to Bloomberg!
So what does the mayor do? He says that the de Blasio campaign is racist.
Why? Because de Blasio has a biracial family, and he has made commercials with his handsome son who sports a big Afro. How dare he show off his mixed-race children! According to the mayor, that’s not fair: it’s racist!
But whose children and wife should be in his commercials if not his own?
Would anyone think twice about any other candidate showing off his wife and children?

You don’t actually have to have a black son of your own to understand this, any parent can. Those are our kids you’re profiling, Mr. Mayor. Stop it!

Stop and frisk is NOT racist, just realistic.

Michael, really? Under your leadership, Mr. de Blasio’s son has most likely been stopped and frisked on his way to his N.Y.C. Public School (that you have made every effort to privatize). N.Y.C. use to be the greatest city in the world – “The Great Melting Pot”. Your monitoring and secret surveillance of N.Y.C. Muslims, the “unconstitutional” stopping and frisking of N.Y.C Blacks and Hispanics, the profiling of N.Y.C parents in Title I Public Schools, and most sadly your “deliberate setting up” of innocent 3rd to 8th graders to look like failures on the new Common Core state exams is nothing less than racist… as well as, several other words that would not be appropriate to type here.
It is ironic that any politicians would attack each other over racism.
20 years ago, I had thought US was way past our darkest days, but with so many politicians, media moguls, and other community organizers dividing Americans we may see our darkest days ahead of US.

George W Bush tried to garner the Hispanic vote by trotting out his brother Jeb’s Mexican wife and their kids. Playing the extended family minority card was much more overt and contrived political manipulation than just being pictured with your own nuclear family.
BTW, Jeb’s son George P is another politically ambitious conservative Bush to look out for in coming years, especially because that presents a more direct opportunity for right-wingers to hoodwink Hispanics into believing that Republicans care about minorities or low-income people.
