Vouchers were supposed to “save poor kids from failing schools,” but what happens when the voucher schools are far worse than the public schools?
John White made excuses. He blamed the schools they attended the previous year.
No excuses, John!
“LEAP scores for third- through eighth-graders show only 40 percent of voucher students scored at or above grade level this past spring. The state average for all students was 69 percent.
For accountability purposes, students attending private schools at taxpayer expense take the same standardized tests as their peers in public schools. In 2011, when the voucher program operated only in New Orleans, students averaged 33 percent proficiency.
“Now seven schools in Jefferson and Orleans parishes have results so low — less than 25 percent of voucher students proficient for three years running — that they have been barred from accepting new voucher students in the fall, as per state policy. In Orleans, the schools are Life of Christ Academy, the Upperroom Bible Church Academy, Bishop McManus, Conquering Word Christian Academy Eastbank and Holy Rosary Academy. In Jefferson, they are Faith Christian Academy and Conquering Word Christian Academy.”
When children fare poorly in a voucher school three years in a row, is it still the fault of their public school?

A number of the voucher schools in new Orleans were only accepting kindergartners and first graders for new enrollments so many of those students probably never set foot in a public school. Of course LDOE wont release such data so they can invent excuses without being challenged.

They are all religious schools. Maybe they are not teaching real subjects and obviously they do not care about their students. Religious schools love vouchers as vouchers bank up their bottom line and that is all they want anyway. Money with no accountability is the name of the game. Most private schools are religious anyway. What else is new?

Since King and Tish work closely together, I am wondering if you are going to write any posts about your friend Randi’s endorsement of Thompson? Unless of course you agree with the endorsement, then you should write about that. But when you started your PAC, wasn’t part of its mission to make sure to support candidates you deemed right for your mission? Does Thompson fall into that category?? I am sure by now you have read Arthur’s new post, and Ednotes and others will soon follow. I just think it’s time for your PAC to show some bite either way.

With due respect, I would never try to control you. However I can’t help but question when you write about the LA union’s endorsements, but avoid anything that has to do with Randi. And in due time I would imagine your PAC will have to endorse because that’s what PACs do. And you also had the opportunity to moderate a debate. You got to know the players, and now we are learning who are behind these “players”. I just found Randi’s endorsement premature since we don’t really know whose pulling the financial strings with the exception of Thompson.

I hope NC is taking note of these results.

Hey Diane and Crawfish. I have a friend who has a friend that knows a lady whose grandson currently works with a number cruncher who worked for the LDoE and ran the numbers on that first batch of voucher kids that hit 3rd grade. John White’s gang produced a revised report that ignored the actual data and made up its own. The number cruncher is considering running for LA BESE against one of Bobby’s whores.

A friend of mine told me, when the news of the awarding of voucher seats to a pastor in north Louisiana who did not even have facilities or teachers got out, that black parents are hoping that Jesus will save their kids. My friend is black and also told me that black teachers think that the teacher evaluation system is designed to eliminate them. She predicts many lawsuits. Wonder where the money will come from for those?
