Good article in the Washington Post about the major decision by Louisiana’s top court to strike down funding of vouchers with public school dollars.
More than 700,000 students in the state, only 8,000 have vouchers. Many vouchers used in schools that resolutely refuse to teach modern science, math, or history. Funny place for Jindal to stake his claim. He is determined to find the money some other way, though he would surely prefer to carve it out of the public school budget.
Jeanne Allen of the pro-voucher Center for Education Reform wants Jindal to appeal decision to the US Supreme Court, but nothing in the US Constitution guarantees the right to use public funds to pay for religious schooling.
6-1 is a pretty big rejection.
The US Supreme Court has declared vouchers constitutional:

However, the question in Louisiana is not one of the constitutionality of vouchers. It is a question regarding the funding mechanism. The Louisiana State Constitution declares that MFP monies are for public schools. This Louisiana Constitutional funding mandate does not go against the US Constitution.
So, what role could the US Supreme Court possibly have in this situation other than to infringe upon the state’s right to its own constitution?
There’s no federal question in the case, so no SCOTUS jurisdiction. You can’t raise federal questions in a petition for cert if they weren’t raised in the state court from which you’re appealing. And there are no federal questions anyway.
I don’t know that it’s that much of a blow. He’ll just spin it as “judicial activism” getting in the way of parents controlling their children’s education.
Supreme Court is filled with idiots.
The only part Jindal could possibly play in the 2016 election is as one of the clowns in the year long republican sideshow that pretends to be a debate. Ludicrous education policy aside, he has presided over significant levels of corruption at all levels of state government. On education, I don’t think America wants a president whose state permits it to be taught that dinosaurs and man lived at the same time, we’re not that dumb yet……..
