I am speaking in Baton Rouge on Thursday.
The first event will be hosted by Leaders with Vision at Drusilla’s restaurant. My talk will be followed by comments by Charles Roemer, president of the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Then, I will speak at a teacher Town Hall. Admission is free and open to all.
Doors open at 5, and I speak at 5:30 pm.
Location: BREC Administrative Building Ballroom, 6201 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge.
You might want to refrain from mentioning Patricia Cornwell while you are there.
She absolutely shamed their police department a few years ago in a nationally televised piece in which she quickly solved a murder in which the local good old boys had overlooked obvious basic red flags.
I will be at both events along with Mercedes Schneider, Herb Bassett and Jason France (crazycrawfish). A serious team of Louisiana public education advocates (all of whom you have published in your blog).
Too bad we have to hear Chas Roemer’s rhetoric. I suppose he agreed to be there because he is running for U.S. Senate. My guess is that he will play “nice.” I hope you play hardball!!! He has a low tolerance when people take his toys away.
One of the most effective teachers in history is Liz Trice, who taught AP English at Hillcrest High School and then at St. Mark’s School of Texas, both in Dallas, Texas.
Liz’ prowess as a tennis player eased her way through Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, and she maintains her fiercely proud support of her alma mater.
Liz’s students include one who is a children’s book author who also writes for the Wall Street Journal, an assistant editor at The Atlantic, and a guy who loves to heal alpacas at a mixed animal clinic in Puget Sound. Each is still in awe of the time s/he was fortunate enough to participate in as a student in a Liz Trice AP English class.
Few have ever had the level of impact on their students as has the incredibly motivating Liz Trice, one jewel of a teacher revered by her students.
Good luck Diane…wish I could be at both events. I hope there is a video or audio recording of this.
Video will be posted on the Leaders With Vision website: lwvision.org
I’m looking forward to hearing your comments on tomorrow’s (3/13/13 -9:00AM CDT) Jim Engster Show radio broadcast. Listen live available @ http://www.wrkf.org

Me and a friend of mine (a teacher) will be there.
Will you be in New Orleans after that?
I will be in New Orleans but with no events planned other than visiting your beautiful city and having a mini-reunion with about 60 college classmates.
Howdy Diane! FYI, our band is in New Orleans during Spring Break. If you get a chance to slip down to the “Big Easy” on the Big Muddy. They are participating in a music contest.
Safe journeys!

Wish I could be there. I’ll be shepherding my 8th graders through yet another CMT session. Will you be speaking closer to home this spring? Your Connecticut fans would love to hear you! Safe traveling!
