Consider spending a few minutes this weekend writing a letter for the October 17 Campaign for Our Public Schools.
Tell the President how Race to the Top has affected your life as a parent, a teacher, a principal, a student, a school board ember or a concerned citizen.
Tell him how important the public schools are to your community and our democracy. Tell him what you know.
Share your ideas about how to improve the schools and the lives of children and families.
Here are the instructions to join the Campaign for Our Public Schools.
Can I make a plea? Even if you really like President Obama and plan to vote for him happily, or even if you think he’s the lesser of the two evils and plan to hold your nose and vote for him, please don’t put any of that in your letter. On the other hand, flat out telling him you’re not going to vote for him under any circumstances probably isn’t helpful either. Obama needs to really feel that all of the votes represented by these letters are truly in jeopardy but not lost yet. We’re competing against vast sums of money in this campaign, and as long as Obama knows he’s got our votes tucked away, he’s going to go with the money. He needs to feel the pressure to chose, and all the money in the world isn’t going to get him elected if people don’t vote for him. Make him at least think he needs to – and can – earn our votes.
That is my first sentence…in my head right now.
I voted and supported you in 2008.
However, you do not have my vote right now and do not plan on getting the vote of all teachers just because the unions have endorsed you. I am sorry to say Mr, President, but you are not in touch with the opinions and concerns of many public school teachers in this country.
Who knows if he will even read any of these letters? But this will be a close election and many plan to not vote or vote third party and he may need us more than he thinks.
He probably won’t read our letters because he will be too busy trying to repair relations with the billionaires. Apparently, they feel disrespected!
From this week’s New Yorker: Why do billionaires feel victimized by Obama?

Dan Loeb, a hedge-fund manager who supported Obama in 2008, has compared his Wall Street peers who still support the President to “battered wives.”
So so sad…they have been so abused by Obama and Arne. If they are battered wives, then we have been beaten, killed and buried over and over again.
Was the COPS acronym intentional?
